Re: Disney places 5 resorts in Travel + Leasures top 10

Hi Mickey
This may seem like a really ridiculous question but my husband and I will be visting WDW in January - volunteering at the Marathon and taking part in the 5k Family Run with our 16 yr old granddaughter from Edmonton Alberta. (We live in Toronto but have a trailer in the Fort Myers area). We are booked for the Marathon and 5k but now need/want to stay at a Disney Resort and want to show our granddaughter a good time...... what is the best way to go about this..... cheapest... we are retired but want her first visit to be memorable..... ????? please help

You can get great rates for the value resorts in January usually, I think its either $59 or $79 per night, the Value Resorts are the All Star Sports, Movies, Music, Pop Century. I have stayed in those and they are nice, if you only need a place to sleep and shower than they will work fine. They also have the cafeteria style food area, and it is reasonable, the moderates may have sit down or a small counter service.

If you want something a step up try the Moderate Resorts.

I guess where you stay depends on your budget.

Do you need passes too?

Hi Mickey Maniac.
Thanks for the assistance. I guess the Moderate would be just fine for us. Where/how is the best place to book this and yes, we will need tickets as well. I think we each get 1 free ticket for volunteering at the Marathon but it is a 1 park 1 day ticket. so also if you could can you tell us the best place to buy WDW park tickets? and what is this Free Dining that I am hearing about? Sorry to ask so many questions but we are new to all of this...
Thanks again....

One thing I would do is order the free DVD planning kit, here is a link http://disneyworld.disney.go.com/wdw...d=VPKEntryPage it will give you alot of ideas.

Here is a link to all of the moderate resorts http://disneyworld.disney.go.com/wdw...rtOverviewPage There is a drop down menu in the lower left corner with the resorts listed

As far as a pass, you can get them at any Disney Store, or at the parks, or try mouseketrips www.mouseketrips.com ALOT of people use them for setting up their trips to WDW.

You can always book online at www.disney.com also.

Here is some info for the dining plan, http://disneyworld.disney.go.com/wdw...eListing06Page

I am sure you will get more posts back with even more help and ideas then I have given so far

Oh yeah, Welcome to DC!!!!

Re: Best Place for our Granddaughter?

I split this off from the T + L thread, since it needs to be in it's own place. I think you will get some more replies this way.

If you have any proof of FL residency (an electric bill will usually do), you can get FL resident rates. Right now, they are only through Christmas, but should be out for January sometime soon. If you can do something like the Wilderness Lodge, it would be great, but honestly, kids really don't care as much as adults where they stay. As long is it is cool, and has a pool, and they can get to the parks pretty easily, it is all the same to them.

Have fun planning!

Re: Best Place for our Granddaughter?

For a 16 year old I would suggest either Pop Century or one of the moderate resorts. I personally think Port orleans french quarter would be a great choice for a moderate, but she may enjoy Carribean beach resort.

Re: Best Place for our Granddaughter?

Welcome to DisneyCentral!

Everyone is right, kids really don't care where they stay. The rooms in a moderate resort are a bit bigger than the rooms at a value resort but all the Disney resorts are nice. I suggest you book through a Disney only travel agent, like Mouseketrips. You will get the best rates out there with the least amount of work on your part.

Have fun planning, you came to the right place for help--we love to plan Disney trips.

Re: Best Place for our Granddaughter?

The Swan and Dolphin are not Disney owned resorts but are on Disney property. They are very nice but more hotel-ish than Disney resorts.

They are resorts near Epcot that aren't disney owned but have some of the disney perks like Early/Evening magic hours and transportation to the parks. they are within walking distance to Epcot, and a quick boat ride away from both epcot and mgm.

Re: Best Place for our Granddaughter?

I would have to recommend Mouseketrip. They are excellent at handling all the details, getting the best rates and managing your every need. Keith (our very own Mickey) was wonderful at handling my and lil brer's trip in May (13 days) and we stayed at 3 different resorts and by the time it was over. He had to change our ressies and answer multiple phone calls and emails from me. We stayed at CR, WL villas, and POFQ (for most of our stay), and he definitely got us the best rates. I would highly recommend Mouseketrips for you. They will answer all your questions and make it a stress free Disney trip and isn't that what we all want.
