Any tips for Animal Kingdom Resort?

We just booked our trip today for the Animal Kingdom Resort for July 06. This will be our first time staying at this resort, does anyone have any helpful hints regarding the Animal Kingdom Resort? Thanks ahead of time

Re: Any tips for Animal Kingdom Resort?

I have stayed at the AKL twice...excellent resort. Try to request a room close to the lobby overlooking the savannah. The room far out in the Zebra trail are gorweous, but a seriously long hike to the lobby. There are many children's activities in the lobby every night. Be sure to check about that when you check in. I don't know if the schedules stay the same or not. Boma is a great breakfast. Try to eat there at least once. Definately take some time to check out all that resort has to offer. you could easily spend a half a day wandering around and seeing everything. The animal lookout points are a fun distraction and the pool is AWESOME!

Re: Any tips for Animal Kingdom Resort?

I've stayed there several times and loved it!! Every time I've gone I've requested a "300s" room and they always complied. They are VERY clsoe to the lobby, back entrance to the pool, laundry, etc. DEFINATELY try "Boma," the desserts alone are worth it! Take time to talk with and participate with any activities you see the CMs doing. I've done everything from make a giraffe christmas ornament out of mosaic ostrich shells, listened to an African folk tale next to the fire, and even stuck my hand in a "mystery box," to guess which animal's horn was in there. The CMs are among the NICEST and most informative I've ever encourtered in WDW and everything there is completely amazing! ALSO, if possible, take advantage of the spa!!! The gym equipment is great, steam rooms beautiful, and the MASSAGES a MUST!!!!
ENJOY!!! Good choice!!!!

Re: Any tips for Animal Kingdom Resort?

Well I just got back, and I hated my room location (very last room on the Zebra Trail- 3596)until I looked outside and found out that all the Zebras and Giraffes liked it where was becuase it was more secluded. I loved loved loved my room location after seeing that view. It made the walk back to room worth it.
Be sure to catch a story while you are there to.

Re: Any tips for Animal Kingdom Resort?

We stayed there last May. It is a beautiful resort, from the African, museum quality art, the savannah views (definately request one) of the animals, story telling around the fire pit at Arusha Rock, natural entry pool....well, yeah there's a lot to do there. Word of warning though; you may not want to leave the resort to go to the parks!!!

You made an excellent choice.

Re: Any tips for Animal Kingdom Resort?

Also, if you have children, take advantage of all the children's activities, including the afternoon cookie decorating at Boma. We always spend 1 day hanging out at the resort then go to DTD for dinner and a movie. My DS did the cookie decorating both times and loved it. The first time they let him decorate 3 cookies. The second time it was limited to 2.

Re: Any tips for Animal Kingdom Resort?

I'll agree with what others have said. Definately try Boma. The food is soooo good there. We sometimes go over there for dinner and love it everytime. Jiko is also very good. It was a little too fancy for my kids, but it is great if you have an adult evening out.

Re: Any tips for Animal Kingdom Resort?

We stayed in the "very last room on level 4 looking into the savanah. I thought the walk was long on the first trip out but then I really liked the feeling of walking the halls passing the windows seeing the animals on one side and the pool on the other. Greeting all the mouse keepers and smelling the smells. It just helps set memories.

Re: Any tips for Animal Kingdom Resort?

I don't know if it applies to your trip, but we went to AKL for our 10 year anniversary in 02 and we mentioned it was our anniversary and we got upgraded to a Savannah room gratis.

Plan some resort time at night to do the night vision animal viewing, and make sure you see the cultural exhibits, and listen to the presentations, and do the story telling.

AKL is nearly a destination in itself. Avail yourselves of the haps at your resort.
