FW Petting Zoo

A writer to Allears Weekly Newsletter is reporting the FW petting zoo has been closed.

Anyone know anything about this?

Ooo, no clue, but that would be sad! Cavey, do you ever do the canoes or kyaks in FW? Those are fun!

Re: FW Petting Zoo

I also read about the FW petting zoo being closed today in the Allears newsletter. I hope its not true. We always enjoy going there before the Hoop De Doo show.

Re: FW Petting Zoo

When we were there in August they still had the pony rides but most everything else was gone. It really is a shame, my kids enjoyed it while waiting for the hoop de doo show.

Re: FW Petting Zoo

I read that as well. Also, I read that all the animal "food" machines would be removed from the WDW grounds. They don't want people feeding the wildlife anymore.Like the pellet machines at the docks, etc. Does anyone know if this is true or not?

Re: FW Petting Zoo

I can confirm that there were no pellet machines on the dock at FW. I have been thinking about the petting zoo.... there were only goats and pot belly pigs there a week and a half ago, and no animals that could be petted beside the pony while being ridden. I am wondering if WDW decided that the petting part left them too liable? Not just from outright injury but from the diseases some farm animals carry. I know there were some near fatal illnesses in Florida this year, caused by petting zoo amimals (not at WDW thankfully). So now Im just wondering.

Re: FW Petting Zoo

We were there last week and before the 7:15 HDD there was not much to see. The goats and pigs were there and there were a couple of the miniature horses, but there were no rides going on at that time. The hand sanitizer dispensers were out of stuff...it didn't seem very Disney to me.

HOWEVER, we rode the wagon ride after the show -- that was great! I believe the cowboy's name was Kelly...DS got to sit up front with him for the entire 45 minute ride! A real treat!

This is what happened to us as well, back in June. We had a 5:30 ressie for Trails End, and we always make it a point to get there about an hour early to see the animals and let DD ride a pony. Only a few pigs and goats, no food, no other animals. They said the pony rides, that used to take place through the petting farm, were now over at the stable. My kids were bummed!

We will still continue to go over to Ft Wilderness for the Trails End and the playground, to see the peacocks, campfire/movie, and hayrides...but we really enjoyed that petting farm! I guess that other petting farm in Orlando that all those people got sick at just hit too close to home.

The pony rides are still at the petting zoo, thats where DD and DS rode. They only run untill 4 or 5:00.

Re: FW Petting Zoo

I would bet it is closed due to the diseases that they fear farm animals are spreading. I know people were very upset that the Texas State Fair this year did not have a petting zoo for that very reason. They said that they hoped to bring it back in the future but for right now it is just too risky. Maybe the same is true for the one at FW.

Re: FW Petting Zoo

How sadd that the petting zoo must close. We've always enjoyed the walk around FW as our kids were growning up...and now, lately with the grandchildren. We've noticed alot of changes around the Disney grounds, sad to say:(
