Mid- dec weather - swimming?

We were to GF in October, but had to end our vacation early due to a death in the family. We now want to make it up to our 3 kids and take them for the Christmas celebrations. We have tentative plans for Dec 10 - 16th at GF. But now I am reading that the weather is unpredictable. My kids love swimming in the hotel pools, will they be able to?

Re: Mid- dec weather - swimming?

Last year we went during the same time and it was cold.
The weather is unpredictable.
I would pack your suits there's no telling how the weather's going to be.
The pools are heated but sometimes you freeze when you get out.
I'm praying for warmer weather since we will also be there during this time!

Re: Mid- dec weather - swimming?

I have gone in January twice now and both times my DD was in the pool. They are heated, so even if it's a bit chilly, they can still go in and not catch a cold. I brought along a heavy, ankle-length nightgown for her to put on when she got out and made her change immediately after swimming. You can't believe how many people are in the pools then. You should be just fine with the pools in December. Just bring warm clothes for them to put on and make them change when they get out.

Re: Mid- dec weather - swimming?

I concur with Dana. The pools themselves are heated, so that's not a problem. It's hitting the cold air when you get out all wet (and there's no way to tell if the weather will be nice and warm, or truly chilly when you go in December). I now pack a fluffy bathrobe when I go at that time of year. That way I'm warm and dry when I get out and can enjoy the pools fully.

We went in Feb and it was cold, but my DD went swimming anyway! The life gurads had on sweatsuits...but compared to our weather at home it was hot! I must admit, I thought I was going to die when we got out, but she was fine!! The water was WARM!!! Take you suit...oh, good idea about the long gown...

Re: Mid- dec weather - swimming?

We have only had two years when we wouldn't swim, both in February. But Dana hit it on the head with the warm wraps between the pool and the room.

Re: Mid- dec weather - swimming?

The weather will really vary here in December. I remember last year wearing tank tops on day in December and a few days later a cold front coming in and wearing jackets. Just be prepared for anything.

We were at WDW mid Dec. last year and we did swim. I agree with the majority, bring a big heavy robe and you will be all set. The water temp is lovely.

Re: Mid- dec weather - swimming?

We have gone to WDW in early/mid December for the last 7 years. The weather is very unpredictable. As other posters have stated the pools are heated, so you can swim, it is just the getting in/out that can be tough! Bring a robe/cover up to wear back and forth and you should be fine!

Re: Mid- dec weather - swimming?

December is so incredibly unpredictable. I've seen 85 degree weather and 32 degree weather in the same week. Craziness.

Re: Mid- dec weather - swimming?

We were there last December and it was in the mid-70's during the day, low 50's at night. Swimming was definately possible, especially as the pools are heated. It was beautiful watching the steam rise from the pool at night when it turned chilly. I would say definately bring your swimsuits because you never know when a good warm day will spring up and be perfect for the pools or waterparks

Re: Mid- dec weather - swimming?

i know that the tempartures for the pools are about 82 degrees year round. i don't know what the weather is like in december. we never been to WDW in december but, the bright side is that the pool is heated all year round.
