ECV question (hope this is the right place

Just a question. Has anyone ever rented an ECV from one of the Orlando supply companies? How did it work for you? Is recharging and bus transportation a problem. Am hoping this is a viable for our next trip. Thanks

Re: ECV question (hope this is the right place

Hi.

When we went this past December with my whole family my Dad was recovering from Hip replacement surgery.

We rented from Randy's Mobility, who were very dependable and helpful. He got a great rate for the 10 days we were there. They brought it right to our resort for him. We had requested a handicapped accessible room, and there was plenty of room for the EVC in the room (POFQ).

He didn't have any problems with the charge. He'd leave it plugged in all night. We rented a minivan and it fit right in the back. He did have to ride it from the car to the front gates though (or the monorail at MK). So I'm not sure about the buses, but I know the bus drivers help you get on the bus.

I also know that if you are worried about the charge, when you are having dinner they will plug it in for you. We didn't have to utilize this, but I know that is also an option.

Good luck!! If you have any more questions, I will try to help you!

Re: ECV question (hope this is the right place

My MIL rented one when we went in 2003. I can't remember which company we used, but they delivered the ECV right to the hotel and picked it up at the end of our trip. We had no problems with it - my MIL only charged it at night also.

We also used the bus transportation and all the drivers were wonderful. A couple of times a bus would stop that did not have the lift for the ECV - they would get on their radio and tell them we were waiting at that particular stop and had an ECV. No complaints whatsoever!

I'm trying to find the thread I used to find the rental companies...

Re: ECV question (hope this is the right place

Thanks folks for all the great info! It's very helpful and my mind is a lot easier re renting. I actually can do without one at the resorts (neuropathy from diabetes), but I'm sick of getting to the parks and finding ECV's not available (this is particularly true and MK and AK. AK has just about the rudest wheelchair renters of any of the parks, btw).

Anyway, thanks again for all the info. It's helped a lot.

Re: ECV question (hope this is the right place

We rented one for mom the last trip. It was at the resort when we arrived and we just left it at Guest services when we left for the company to pickup. Sorry I don't remember the company we rented from. The buses were great, never a problem. And charging was no problem. Renting for the entire week is better. Our previous trip she would rent one each day at the parks and we would use a wheel chair for the rest of time. Our room was always as far awary from the bus stops and lobby as you could get (but the view was great) so walking was out for her. with the ECV she could come and go as she please.

Re: ECV question (hope this is the right place

Mom and I just got back on October 3 and I rented one for her from CARE Medical Equipment 1-800-741-2282. We rented the Heavy Duty Scooter at $30.00 a day. It was delivered right to Bell Services at POP on Friday morning at 9:00 am and we left it with BEll Services when we lefted, we just signed for it. We did not use the bus system we just rented a midsize SUV, to us that's easier. We had NO problems on the Monorail, and company we rented from was great. My Mom said it was a lifesaver! We always go over to DTD to shop but she can never walk the whole thing because she needs a knee replacement. With the scooter she seen everything and said she never know how big DTD was. (eastside and westside). Have a great time!
