DisneyHog, having been to WDW as much as you have, have you ever stayed at Shades of Green?
If so, how did you like it.

This question is open for anyone who has stayed there, so please if you have comments or photos or both -- I'd like to hear and see them.

Hey Dopey.

Actually, yes, I have stayed at SoG on two seperate trips. I haven't stayed there since the remodel, so keep in mind all my opinions are from before they spruced the place up... But even still, it was very nice. I'm sure it's even nicer now.

I really loved the place. But it really depends on what you're looking for. SoG has the biggest rooms on property (not counting the "Home away from home" villas). The rooms are very big. The rooms are nice and comfy. But one of the best things about SoG is how close it is to MK. It's walking distance to the monorail station @ the Poly. That was very convienent. They also have a shuttle that goes to the parks, water parks, and DD like all other WDW hotels. The food places are pretty good too. No character meals or anything, but decent food at reasonable prices. The only down side I can think of is that it just isn't "Disney" enough. They don't have towel animals, they don't have hidden Mickey's on the bed comforters, and they don't have the morning wake-up call from our favorite mouse. But other than that, I really enjoyed SoG. Hi! this seems like a good post for me to ask an embarrassing question! What is Shades of Green??? Since I was a kid I have seen their buses at the T&TC but never knew what the heck it was. I know it is a hotel but what is it? Someone once told me it was only a place for people in the service to stay? Can anyone stay there? Who runs it? Is it on Disney property? Just so curious! Sorry if this is threadjacking but I was just dying to know.

We stayed at SoG 2 years ago right after the rehab and thought the resort was beautiful. Dewey is right, it's not very Disney-ish, I missed the Mickey soaps and Disney touches but the resort was wonderful. We paid the highest price due to rank and at that time it was about $100 per night--that is an excellent price for the type of resort. When SoG was a Disney resort (Disney Inn and Disney's Golf Resort before that) it was a Deluxe resort so it is on level with Poly and Beach Club type resorts.

Steph said it right, it is for military folks. But retired military, and DoD employees are allowed to stay there also. You must have a DoD ID card to check in. Rates are based on rank for military, or GS level for civilian DoD employees. It was originally called The Disney Inn was a Deluxe Resort when Disney ran it, but in the early 90's (I think) Disney leased the property to the DoD. So now us military folks get a cheap hotel to stay in to reward us for having low pay, and giving all you civilians freedom.

I liked the room safe--it was huge. You could lock it with a credit card or make your own 4 number code.
