Shades of Green?

Can anyone tell me about SOG? We are thinking of maybe staying there this spring but I don't know too much about it. We are also thinking of CS or POFQ. I love POFQ but want to try something new. (But I'm a little afraid to!)
I'm mostly worried about transportation issues since we will not have a car.

Used to be called Disney Inn, before it was leased to the army on a 99 year lease. It is located near the Polynesian you can walk there and catch monorail or bus system. I'm sure there is some sort of transporation available there but I'm not sure if it's on the Disney system.

Has some of the largest rooms of the properties on site, excluding DVC villas. It was also the smallest in terms of number of units of the Disney properties.

We liked it because it was on site but also off the beaten trail so it was quiet.

Can't say how it is being run now since Uncle Sugar took over management but it was our fav place to stay.

Once again we have stayed there twice and one more time coming up. We LOVE it there! Compare it to any Deluxe (IMHO). You just don't have any Disney around you at all, if thats what you want this is not for you, but if you want quiet and all of that you will love it. After a day at any park it is nice to take it down a notch or two!

Re: Shades of Green?

You can find out more about SOG from their website {http://www.armymwr.com/shades/index.html}. We are also looking at staying there on our next trip. For military, its a good option for price and amenities. They have a AAFES shoppette and tickets&tours where you can get miltary discounted "stars & stripes" park passes. As far as transpo, I think they may have some buses direct to parks/D-town Disney, but I beleive the majority is the SOG bus every 15 mins to the Ticket & Transportation center where you can catch buses or the monorail.

Re: Shades of Green?

I thought the SOG was strictly for miltary personnel and familes, am I correct?

Re: Shades of Green?

You are correct. SOG is run by Army MWR, and is for active duty and retired military and families.

Re: Shades of Green?

We stayed there before the remodel on our very first Disney trip. It was a nice place, although the transportation wasn't as good, in my opinion.

The price was great for such a nice resort!
