OCD Planning: last minute change in plans

Man, having OCD can be a real pain.

So, I'm looking at the "plan" and things weren't adding up.

The Day 1 plan was to arrive at MCO at 12:15 and be checked in to CBR and ready to go to MGM by 2pm.

HOWEVER, DS's godfather is flying Delta and he bumped to a later flight, so he won't arrive until 12:25 and coming from Atlanta, there's a fairly good chance he'll be late.

Add that to the fact that my folks are checking bags, we may not leave the airport until close to 1.. or even later.

So, what's the big deal? Well, we have this tradition of eating at Portobello on the first night and because of other plans (EMH and whatnot), the first night is the only good night for us to see Osborne lights. With the prospect of not getting to MGM until after 3pm, we'd only have a couple of hours in the park, we'd be somewhat rushed through Osborne Lights and we'd be cutting it close for dinner at 8pm, which would be very late, especially since we likely wouldn't have eaten since breakfast.

Soooooo, here's what I did.

We're having dinner at 5:40 at Mama Melrose's and we'll see Osborne Lights after dinner. That should give us time to see the lights and possibly one ride before MGM closes. That, and the stores usually stay open until 9pm, so we can shop on the way out.

We're having dinner at Portobello's the next night, which actually makes more sense than eating at Narcoossee's, as originally planned, b/c DW, DS's godfather and I want to do Pleasure Island that evening and DKs can hang out with their DGPs.

So, I cancelled CP on Sunday night before MVMCP and we'll eat at Narcoossee's before the party instead.

WHEW! Now everyone will be happy.

Ahh... well, just so you know, this has also become somewhat of a tradition.

I didn't actually do OCD planning until our trip in May 2003. That plan more or less stayed consistent with the first version.

But, for the May 2004 trip, I found DisneyCentral after my first version, and I learned so many tricks and time-savers, that I ended up changing the plan 3 times. The last time about 2 weeks before we left.

Last year's trip in December was 8 days and I ended up scrapping half of the plan about a month before we left and re-did it completely. Then we abandoned a good part of it while we were there (HUGE mistake BTW. We ended up exhausted because we were being too reactionary... please see my trip report for a more detailed explanation of that)

The last trip in June of this year was easy to plan because it was so short and it was only the 4 of us, so many of the variables were gone. That was pretty much last minute for us anyway as we only planned it in May.

So, I actually HAVE changed plans before.

What I won't do ever again is abandon a plan altogether. Planning is good so that you don't have to think too much, but flexibility is nice, so you can respond to changes like weather, cancelled shows, etc.

Uhh, did you ever actually finish that trip report? Do fair showing back up here after all this time and then ditching 2/3 of the way through your report!
