Swan and Dolphin

Why is it that if you stay at the Swan or Dolphin that you do not get the extra magic hour benifit? Does anyone recommed the Swan or Dolphin? Are there any advantages to staying there over other resorts that offer the EMH benifit?

Re: Swan and Dolphin

Although The Swan and Dolphin are on Disney property, they are NOT Disney-owned hotels, and as such, don't get some of the benefits of staying on-site.

I don't want to speak for her, but I'm pretty asure DDoll likes both of these resorts, and when she comes on later, I'm sure she can tell you all about why she chooses these resorts over the other Disney owned properties.

I personally have never stayed at either one, but I'd like to. I love the architecture and the location.

Re: Swan and Dolphin

We enjoyed both when we stayed there, mainly because of the location. The upsides are the great price for teachers and nurses, the large number of resturants between them, the nightclubs in each, and did I mention the price! The downside is that they are the major convention resorts on property and as such you have a lot of business types roaming around. Can be a little disconcerting to get into an elevator dripping wet while the guy next to you is in a suit, lol.

Did I mention the great price!

Re: Swan and Dolphin

Can you get the dining plan when staying at the Swan or Dolphin?

Re: Swan and Dolphin

I stayed at the Swan and Dolphin for a convention last June and I was able to use the Extra Magic Hours benefit. Some things you can't take advantage of are the Magical Express, the dining plan, and charging to your room at the theme parks. I think a big perk of the Swan and Dolphin is the location. It was wonderful and you can also get some pretty good discounts on the rooms. And of course, there were the "Heavenly Beds." It was really hard to pull myself out of those in the morning.

Re: Swan and Dolphin

The Swan is a great resort. It has one of the best locations on Disney property, the rooms are wonderful, the pool is very cool, and the service is top notch. It isn't Disney owned, but the service is Disney quality and you get most of the amenities that Disney owned resort guest do. I believe that the only service that isn't available at the Swan/Dolphin is that you cannot use your room key as a charge card at the parks. I've stayed at the Swan twice and plan on staying there again in 2007. It is a wonderful resort.

Re: Swan and Dolphin

Coasterman is correct. You get all the same percs as a Disney resort except for charging park purchases to your room key. Which makes sense: it's not Disney owned. You can charge to your room key in the Disney gift shop in the hotel, and at both resorts, restaurants included.

We get Extra Magic Hours, package delivery from park purchases and top notch service and themeing. You can even buy your park passes there, book your dining and shop in a Disney gift shop. However, ME is not available at the Swolphin, nor is the Dining package.

But they are a deluxe resort and offer some terrific price specials. Being a nurse, I can usually get a nurse's rate there, which is less than half the normal price.

I can't imagine staying anywhere else now. I think I've been spoiled. And I never sleep better than I do on those Heavenly beds. I really need to get one of those for home.

I have been in both and they are very nice.

Does anyone know the deal on why they are not owned by Disney? Weren't they at one time?

Re: Swan and Dolphin

Swan and Dolphin are Sheraton hotels. they are mainly for business conventions. but families can stay there, too. you still get the perks of EMH and the disney transportation if you stay at either one. if you have kids, i don't think Swan and Dolphin are good hotels to spend your family vacation at. it's not really geared toward kids. it's business resorts. for a couple, it's fine. we stayed at the Swan for our anniversary and had a good time. if you are a Starwood Preferred Guest member, you get a couple of perks as well. you can go to spg.com for more information on how to become a member. one of the perks is you get a free upgrade on your room. you can also get a later check out. the membership is free for SPG.
