Re: Old Key West

We love Old Key West. We've been members of DVC since 2000, and have stayed at all the DVC properties. OKW is our first pick, every time. I can't say enough good things about it. The one and two bedroom villas are huge. The studios are comfortable and a good size. It's a very quiet, laid-back resort. Some don't think it's "Disney" enough, but we think it's just about perfect. The restaurant "Olivia's" is one of Disney's best-kept secrets. It's wonderful, homey and delicious! They have a brand new waterslide in the pool and you can take the boat down to the Marketplace. It's SUCH a great resort!

Don't worry for a second. Have you got a studio or one or two bedroom suite?

The main pool is great. They put a waterslide in a couple of years ago, in the shape of a huge sandcastle. All the kids look like they're having a very good time! (my waterslide days are over, lol). There's a kiddie pool and a playground right next to the main pool. Along with the community club where you can get DVD's, games, small arcade, etc. There are several other quiet pools around the resort. The 2 bedroom suites are wonderful! You won't believe how huge it is. (and the ducks outside your patio are free ) Bring bread to feed them - they don't appreciate it if you don't, and they let you know - loudly.

We've stayed there too and really enjoyed it. I find that it has a calm feel that is nice after rushing around the rest of The World.

Re: Old Key West

You are going to love Old Key West, we are going back for our 3rd stay there...we leave in less than 2 weeks!! YIPPEE!
It's so nice. We've stayed in building 18 both times and hope we get it again. The bus stop is close by, the main pool is not. If you want to be close ask to be near the main lobby building. My parents stayed in the buildings just across the street from the main building last summer and really liked being that close to the gift shop for milk, juice, etc. It's such a beautiful resort! I hope you enjoy it too.

We always ask for a main floor suite - maybe that's why, lol. And we always seem to be near a stream or the river. They come visit every morning. They waddle up to the patio every morning and quack their heads off! Once they're fed, they waddle off to the shade and sleep all day. Nice life.

BTW mommyof2 - Welcome to DC!

Re: Old Key West

Thanks to everyone for their input!! This is our first Disney vacation with the kids and I think I am more excited than them!! Also, I have not been there since 1992!!!!! I have been trying to read as much as I can about the parks and resorts, and quite frankly, it's a bit overwhelming!!!! ANY SUGGESTIONS ARE MUCH APPRECIATED!!!!!! Thanks again!!!!

Re: Old Key West

You will love OKW, it is our home resort as well. We have stayed there several times, in both 2 and 3 bedroom villas. Just beautiful, and all the patios are pretty quiet and private. Most of the have nice views of the golf course. Make sure you request a room near the main building/pool. Some of the units are really far away. Oh, and remember there are only three buildings that have an elevator, so if that is a must, let them know before you get there.
