We want to do it "right"

Okay, I know I haven't even left yet for my visit this year but my DH and I have decided to back October 2005 for our DH 5th birthday. So, we have also decided to do it "right" meaning a Deluxe Resort!!

So my question which Deluxe would you choose, would you do a package we want it to be an unbelievable trip! (We have 2 years to save ;) )

This trip will also be a stress reliever because we should have hopefully :hmmm ) finished building our house by then (we plan to start the end of 2004).

Thanks!:D

We're doing the same thing this year. We're doing the Poly! We've stayed at the WL (Only because we were upgraded after they closed Port Orleans after 9/11). We're doing one of the packages. We're also doing the first days (GASP!) at that other park (Universal) since we haven't been there yet. The up side is we extended the trip by two days to account for the the two at that other park! We had a little extra cash to play with this time so that is why we chose to do the Poly instead of one of the moderates like we usually do. I can't wait to have the Monorail right at our front door! With a young child (we have two, ages 4 and 7) I would ewither do the Poly or the WL. When we were upgraded to the WL the kids had a ball especially since the room had bunk beds. The transportation good and the boys got a real kick out of takin gthe boat everday to get the MK or the monorail to head out to the other parks. Also this time we are going to do the Back Yard Bar B Q. It's gonna be a blast! We haven't been to the AKL yet but that might be an interesting choice also. To be honest my wife is concerned that it might be aromatic being so close to the wild life! I told her it's Disney, they wouldn't stand for an inconvience like that!:)

If you want to do it right, I would suggest either the Polynesian or the Grand Floridian. They are both wonderful resorts, and being on the monorail is great.

As far as packages, I would shy away from anything but the Dream Maker that includes your park passes. Anything more than that is difficult to justify, it just doesn't ever add up, unless you really try. For our family, we go for the parks. By buying a package, you have to do a ton of things outside the parks, plus eat at nice restaurants every time, I just find it takes away from what you are there for.

Yes by packages I just assumed you were referring to the "Dream maker" packages. That is what I would suggest.

Thanks for the replies. So Mickey-- How early could we book this trip? If I wanted to go with your company do I just go to the web site? My TA I'm using for this trip in March did a good job but didn't seem to know anything about codes or just didn't use them! So I'm plannin on a Disney only company next time.

Mattomouse -- let me know how you enjoy your stay! We can't decided between the Poly, WL or GF? So some insight would be great.

You can book anything for 2003 right now. Even for 2004, the prices haven't been released, but they will still let you book rooms, and will just charge you a deposit of what they think the rooms will be.

If you plan on using Mouseketrips , you will need to go over there.

Deluxe resorts

The best place to stay for my money are the Tree Houses at the Institute. All the conviences of home (3 BR 2 BA) and maid service. I didn't have it this good at home. Private pool for those guests at the tree houses, it's secluded and queit.

I think they're gone now. My DH stayed there with his sr trip (many, MANY moons ago!) but I think they've started building the new DVC place over there now. The spa at the Institute is still open, but not anything else. Sorry, hope I didn't ruin your day. I know what it's like to fall in love with a particular resort.

Hey Willbegone, if you really want to do it "right" I'd go with GF. It's the ULTIMATE in luxury & you're on the monorail. WL has wonderful atmosphere and tends to be a little less expensive, but a little more inconvenient. I've never stayed at the Poly, but everyone here loves it & it is also on the monorail.

Re: Deluxe resorts

I agree with Mickey about the Grand Floridian or Polynesian. I haven't stayed at the GF but that is our goal one of these days. The Polynesian is fabulous for families!!!

Correct me if I'm wrong but I think these are not available any more.

Willbegone I see you leave in less than a month. Why not narrow down your choices and take a tour of them on you next trip? Opinions of others are helpful but I'm sure you will have a better idea if you see for yourself.

Hi Willbegone,

Glad to find another person who plans far in advance. We are staying at the Poly in Dec of 04. We aren't going to do a package. We are getting Annual Passes. We plan on being there for 2 weeks. This saves us alot on the hotel. For this many days we decide on the concierge pool view. This way we don't have to pay for $2.00 cokes and so on. I have done a lot of checking about all the rates and room views and whether to do packages or conceirge. Just to let you know, this is by far my favorite hotel ever. The kids will like it and you will like the romantic nights. Email me with any questions [email]

Have fun

Janelle

My dream place to stay has for a long time been the Grand Floridian. However, after seeing the pictures of the rooms on the Internet, I am not so impressed. I visited the GF this past Thanksgiving, and although the lobby was georgeous, I am not so sure I want to stay there as much as I once did.

BUT, I did stay at the Poly at Thanksgiving and can't wait to have the opportunity to go back again. The rooms were spacious and a little on the exotic side. The walk through the property was very relaxing and "tropical"! You can walk down to the beach and the lake. In a heartbeat I would recommend the Poly over the others.

The monorail will absolutely spoil you. I have always stayed at moderates and the bus has always been just fine, but now....... You can access MK, Contemporary, Ticket & Transportation Center and the Poly, all on the monorail. At the T&TC you can switch and ride the monorail to EPCOT, never having to use the bus. If you are at EPCOT you can take the boat to MGM. So many options!

Poly, Poly, Poly!!!!

Try it, you'll like it!!

:p  :)

I am now officially depressed. THE TREE HOUSES ARE GONE! What are they thinking!!!

I think the idea of touring all of the other resorts on your next trip is a perfect idea. I preffer the home away from home set up. You are given a little more privacy than a room:madmad

I think they made them part of the Disney Institute... perhaps someone out there can confirm that.
