Wilderness Lodge in April

Hi! I'm new here, but very excited to hear your opinions.
I'm planning a trip to Disney April 5-20. The first week we'll be staying with 2 other families in a time-sharing hotel very close to Disney.
The second week we will be on our own. I think we´ll make reservations at Disney's Wilderness Lodge. Would you recommend it? We've stayed at the All-Stars Movie and Port Orleans French Quarter before, but we want something more!!! We are planning to spend some time at the hotel and maybe go to the Campfire Program at the Wilderness Resort & Campground (is it fun?).
My daughters are 3 and 7 years old. Do you think WL is a good choice for them?
Thanks for your help!!!

Welcome to DisneyCentral. Yes, I think WL is a great choice. There is a ton to do around the resort, you can take a boat over to Fort Wilderness or to the Magic Kingdom. The pool is great, the restaurants are great and the lobby is the best place in WDW to just hang out and relax.

You should have a wonderful time at the WL!! We were there in Nov. with a 2 and 3year-old and they loved it. The lobby is impressive and the pool area spectacular!! My kids loved taking the boat to MK and it was always very convienent and speedy for us. Very little waiting. If you're staying for a week take advantage of the refillable mug deal at the food court - about $12 to buy a mug then free refills all week long of any beverage, coffee, tea, hot choc. soda... It was really worth it, especially since we could "share" with our little ones for "free". And you have a nice souveniour when you go home. You'll love the western music by the pool and the "owls and crickets" at night on the walkway! Its a hoot....:)

We stayed at the WL with our 2 year old last June. It was great! The pool is fun and there is a kiddie pool as well. There is a small beach. He loved watching the geyser erupt. We were able to upgrade to concierge at check in for $40 - it was well worth it. We had constant access to milk, juice and snacks. The boat ride to MK and watching the EWP were also highlights. Wow- writing this makes me want to stay there again!:)

Yes we stayed at WL in 2001 for Thanksgiving and it was wonderful. We were up in the air for our next excursion in August '03, it was between WL and the Poly. We opted for the Poly only because we haven't stayed there yet. Make sure you get bunk beds in the room (If you are so inclined that is) My boys loved them! Also make sure your kids get to see the geyeser, they'll have a blast!:)

How did you do that? Was it $40.00 a night or was it for your whole stay? We're staying at the Poly in August and It would be neat if we can upgrade like that!

Wilderness Lodge

I would recommend the WL to anyone, it has such a great atmosphere that appeals to anyone. We went last December with the whole family, our kids are a little older, well into their teenage years, but I have no doubt the younger ones would find the resort a fun place as well. There are so many perks to the resort, however not on the monorail line, the boat to the MK is great. Hardly any wait at all. The pool area is truly a sight, and the restaurants at WL are some of my favorites in WDW. You won't be disappointed.

Hope this was helpful...

Yes, the decorations were gorgeous! The tree in the lobby was our favorite, took many pictures. My daughters (14 and 16), were trying to figure out if that giant tree was real....and came to the conclusion it was false. I guess you can't have it all.

We stayed in a room on the 5th floor overlooking the pool area, and they even had garland and lights on some of the balconies, it was just beautiful. Definitely our favorite Disney resort...

Missing the World

I had read on the boards to ask at the WL if a concierge "upsell" was available - and it was!!!!!! The $40 was well worth it for the food, and the service we got from the staff making some changes to PS for us.

I am staying at the Poly in May and would love to do the same...I have never heard of anyone getting a really cheap upsell there.

We stayed at WL in March. Absolutely loved the atmostphere. You really feel like you're away from everything. The hotel/lobby are beautiful & the pools are great, too. The geyser is especially cool & a must see at least once during the trip. The only drawback we have when comparing it to other deluxe resorts is the location. I understand you wouldn't have that same "woodsy" feel without it being so secluded, but since we don't have any little ones we prefer being closer to EPCOT & MGM so we do one of the boardwalk hotels now (BWI, BC or YC). But I think with younger kids & MK being so important still it's a great choice. And I think it's probably the cheapest of all the deluxe resorts so it's a great deal for the money!

WILDERNESS LODGE

I agree, we've stayed at the WL, and it is a beautiful lodge, especially around the holidays. I also agree to asking for bunk beds, my girls were older and got them, and they loved them. We try and get to DW at least 3 times a year, also try to stay someplace different, but we all have our favorites. My husband and I just love the AKL. Infact , it reminds us of the WL, we understand they had the same architect. As far as the WL, I think it's a good choice, since you will be probably be spending alot of time at the MK. My daughters are grown now, still come with us, sometimes even without the husbands and boyfriends. So , now we like to stay at AKL or Coronado . Going back in May, and still waiting for the annual pass holder rates to become available. When they do it will probably be AKL, CS, or Poly Village. I just have to be patient, and hope the discounts come out soon. Enjoy the WL, it does have great character!!!!:)

Is the upgrade to conciege only available at check in! I checked with reservations and it would have pushed my price up about 500 bucks (OUCH!!). Staying at WL in Wood View 11/28:dazed
