I am a DVC (Disney Vacation Club) Member, and OKW is my "home resort". Disney Vacation Club is Disney's version of a time-share (only much better!!!). We have been to Old Key West once, and stayed in a studio (Which is basically a large hotel room with a small fridge and microwave) but there are many different types of rooms there that range from 1 bedroom that sleep 4 to 3 bedrooms that sleep 12 all with full kitchens.

Old Key West is very nice. It is so relaxing and quite (right in the middle of Disney World!!). We didn't eat at the resort at all. Oliva's just seemed overpriced for what you get. Every evening we went right next door (2 minute drive) to Port Orleans and ate in their food court and swam in their way-cool pool!

OKW pool is a quite pool after 10:00 pm, and when my kids whisper, you can hear them a block away! So that is why we opted for Port Orleans. Port Orleans has an awesome pool!

The rooms were very nice and the view out the back door was lovely.

What more info can we give you??? We really enjoyed it a lot, and can't wait until we go back again.

Thanks. I am just trying to find out about the resort. We have stayed at a few of the other resorts and I am just wondering how this one compares. How is the DW transportation from OKW? I know at some of the resorts the buses do not run as frequently. Is Olivia's the only place to eat? I am excited to try a new resort. What resort is your favorite?

I don't know how much it will cost you vs. "Deluxe" resorts. I would think you could stay at the Wilderness Lodge cheaper (looking at "rack rates") but OKW is very nice. There is a hamburger/sandwich place at OKW, but we didn't eat there, we wanted more of a selection, and like I said, Olivias was too expensive compared to the parks for what you get.

I love the thought that Old Key West is our "home away from home" we love it there! But if you don't need the extra kitchen facilities, I would think you would enjoy a deluxe resort better, unless you are looking for something very quaint and quiet, which Old Key West definately is. Very Charming resort.

We too own at Old Key West and usually stay there. The rooms are very comparable to the deluxe resorts, though larger of course. The resort is beautiful, and the bus service is frequent.

The nicest thing about OKW is that you have swimming priveliges at most of the resorts. We usually spend the afternoon swimming, and try to hit a different resort each day. All of the pools at the deluxe resorts are beautiful.

Also, I too would suggest to stay away from Olivias. We ate there one night, and there was no one in the place, it was very expensive, and the food and service were horrible. There are some nice "fast food" places that serve conch fritters and the like near the pool. They are nice to grab something to eat and relax.

We're not part of the WVC but stayed at OKW last fall since our original reservations for a treehouse bungalow were taken away. We were very disappointed not to get a bungalow (being renovated for WVC) but once we got to the OKW we were in much better spirits. One of the bus drivers told us OKW is the premier resort and if any buses need to be cut they never will from OKW. Said we were royalty! Just don't tell them you're not a WVC member and play along! You might want to close your eyes around the turns though, those bus drivers whiz through turns I don't think I'd make in my van! Maid service was outstanding, kitchen fully equipped, only bad thing was carting groceries up 3 flights of stairs.

Rosieglow1 check this site for some facts about OKW. Scroll down (under the Home away from Home Section on the left side) and you can even see a picture. We are DVC members and our HOME is OKW. We LOVE :heart it. When staying at OKW we are relaxed instead of the hussle and bussle of a hotel like resort.

Can't wait, we will be in the most magical place on earth soon. :D

Old Key West

I'm a former DVC member and they put me up at OKW when I went down to buy. The rooms are nice and big, but the transportation system does not work very well from here. Plan on renting a car. OKW is very out of the way which means its nice and quiet. The pools are great. To set your expectations the check in process is slow so be patient. Hope this was helpful. and I hope you have a great time.
