Tips for a stay at the Poly

We just changed our resort from the POFQ to the Poly for our trip in Sept. For those of you that have stayed at the Poly, do you have any suggestions or tips? Our DS (10) loves to swim, so I was thinking of requesting a room near the volcano pool.
We have reservations for Hoop-Dee-Doo at the FW. Do you know the best way to get there? Also, I think I read that you can walk to the TTC. How far of a walk is it? To go to Epcot, would you walk there and take the Epcot monorail, or take the monorail at the Poly first? Do they have buses right in front of the Poly, or do you have to walk to the TTC to get to some of the parks?

I think I read that you can watch fireworks from the beach. Has anyone done that? I know all these questions sound kind of dumb, but oh well. Now I need to change a couple of our ADRs.

Thanks for any info and advice you can give us. We are SO excited about staying at the Poly. I have always wanted to stay there.

Re: Tips for a stay at the Poly

None of the long houses are really too far from pool.

The TTC actually adjoins the Poly (path leads right to it) short walk. To go to EPCOT or other hotels walk to TTC then catch monorail or bus. Getting on in Poly you go to GF, MK, Contemp, then TTC before return to Poly.

For MK catch monorail in Poly. There are TWO monorails from MK & TTC. One is nonstop to TTC and the other is resort monorail and generally this one is less crowded. You can also catch the launch at the boat dock that runs berween MK, GF & Poly.

You can catch the wishes fireworks from MK and the boat parade from the beach. Can't hear the music and story so wait for the grand finalie. (Small bottles of wine available in shop in the great hall.)

Your best location is Nuie (sp?), That building is in a perfect location. It's smack in the middle of both pools, seconds from the Great Ceremonial house and only moments from the game room. I would stay in that building over the lagoon view if I went back again. Try to request the first floor. You get a patio. It's a nice way to relax at the end of the night.

Re: Tips for a stay at the Poly

For HoopDeDoo: take monorail to MK, then boat to FW Campground. That's the easiest way I found. Or else you could probably take bus from TTC to FW, but then need to take another bus in FW to Pioneer Hall (where HDD is).

Depending on which longhouse you are staying at it's not a far walk to TTC. DD loved riding on the monorail so we usually took it to TTC and then hopped on Epcot monorail.

Yes, fireworks are awesome from the beach!!! We were there 4th of July week and we saw fireworks from the beach most nights. Gave DD a shovel and pail to play with while waiting, it was SOOOO relaxing!!! And a great way to avoid the crowds!

Have a great time Poly is my favorite resort so far!!!

Oh the convenience of the monorail! And the walk to the TTC is really nice too. I don't have any tips, just am excited to hear you'll be staying at the Poly. We loved it! And the boys thought the pool was awesome.

Having never stayed there, I was going through Walt Disney World website and saw all the resorts.

Having lived in Polynesia for ten years, I was impressed with the decor. It looks wonderful, and probably is the closest thing to being in the South Pacific. (though tapa cloth does get old after awhile..)

The easiest way to get to the Hoop Dee Doo is to take the boat from the Polynesian to the MK, and then take another boat from the MK to the FW campground. It's then a quick walk to the Pioneer Hall. When we were there in 2002, our daughter was also 10 years old and she loved the Polynesian, the volcano pool, and she really enjoyed the Hoop De Doo. You and will family will definitely have a great time there.

Re: Tips for a stay at the Poly

I'm glad going to the Hoop-Dee-Doo will not be a big problem from this resort. It sounds like if we allow an hour for transportation, we might be ok.
I've looked at the virtual tours and the place looks beautiful. It is amazing that Disney could make everything look so authentic. That's what I love about Disney.
DS was so excited when I told him where we will be staying and described the pool.
Judging from everyone's comments, I think we will have a great stay at the Poly.
You know what's kind of funny? When we first visited WDW about 5 years ago, my SIL did all of the planning. She had been before and I didn't know the first thing about WDW. When we pulled up to the resorts, I couldn't remember which resort our reservations were for. Instead of pulling out my paperwork, I thought, "I know it begins with the letter P." So we go to the entrance of the Poly and I told the person there that we had reservations. We didn't have to show any paperwork, so we just went on through. DH pulled up, we unloaded our luggage, and I went inside to check us in while DH parked the car. Well, it turned out we were staying at the POFQ! POFQ is a very nice resort, but not quite the same as the Poly! I felt so stupid. We still had a wonderful time, but I have always wanted to stay at the Poly.
