Towels for pools
My wife is wondering if we will need to pack beach towels for our trip to DW. We will be staying at the poly. I told her I knew just the people to ask.

There are plenty of towels to be had either from your room or at the pool. And if you really want you can always buy beach towels in the hotel. We have at least one from each trip!

I've seen two different kinds of towels on my stays. The ones in your room are like regular (but not thin) towels. The staff seems pretty good with meeting your towel needs. Once we arrived and were short towels (in our opinion, lol!), so we called and asked for more. After that, they pretty much kept supplying us with that same extra amount.
The towels by the pool are larger, but thinner. So, although they cover you up better after a swim, they aren't as warm/water absorbing as the room towels. The towels by the pool are kept in dispensers that I always keep mistaking for garbage cans or towel returns, lol! :) What hours are the towels available??? I'm always afraid that I'll get out there and they'll either be closed or out of towels (I like swimming early in the morning and late at night), so I always wind up bring a room towel w/ me "just in case". Can some one enlighten me about this so I can stop this cumbersome habit? THANKS! :)

Being the spoiled folks we are, we always bring our Disney ones from home. We have Buzz, Lilo, Tinkerbell, Donald & more. We just like having our own towels that are nice & big & then when we leave them on a chair we know where we are! And since we do the water parks, too, we just feel it's worth bringing them. I actually pack a separate suitcase that has towels, bathing suits, flip flops, cover ups, etc in it. It's our "swimming suitcase." But I have to have my Disney towels!

Re: water parks
It depends on how often you'll actually USE the towels. I'm sure we must have taken hotels ones (probably ones borrowed from the pool) -- I can't recall, but I KNOW we didn't bring ones from home of buy any! ;) Anyway, by the time you wait in the queque for a ride, you've pretty much dried off. If it's warm enough, even the wave pool is no problem. Now, that's for me -- a person who goes to a waterpark to go on the slides and wave pool and such and that's IT. If you're planning to eat at the snack place and lie out in the sun a lot, then you probably would want to bring a towel with you that makes you feel all comfy (I wouldn't recommend stretching out on either kind of hotel towel -- they're not the right size and fluffy-ness for it). They (of course!) sell beach towels at the water parks, so you can wait until you actually get there to decide on your course of action. Keep in mind that, like at the beach, you'll be leaving whatever you bring with you (i.e. shoes, towel) unattended for large amounts of time as you go from slide to slide. The really big water slides don't even let you wear goggles on them (why??? I have prescription ones, and not being able to see was not at all comforting!).

There have always been plenty of pool towels on our trips, but we do like to bring our big Disney ones. I pack my DVC canvas bag with towels, water shoes/flipflops, water balls, goggles and sunscreen. It stays that way all year and we just replace whatever is needed and throw it in the car!

My husband and I always enjoy getting "new" Disney towels from the water parks. Hee hee. It's an excuse to buy them.
