Icon5 Need POP help- son has broken foot!

Of course, my 11 year old DS broke a bone in his foot and we are leaving for WDW in 5 days Although he is walking on it, I need suggestions as to the best way to request a convenient room location at POP. Can anyone help or offer advice?

I may actually need to rent a wheelchair for the parks- I'll have to see how he feels.

Re: Need POP help- son has broken foot!

I think you can get their fax number from www.allearsnet.com and fax them a room request.

Just politely explain the situation, let them know your son just broke his foot, and you'll need a ground floor room in the building closest to the main hall. Probably 60s or 80s on the Classic Hall side, right?

Someone will chime in on the exact building you need, I'm sure - but, fax your request - a son in with a broken ankle should get first dibs on a room!

I would call down and explain the situation. They can hook you up with stuff like a room near the elevators etc.

Re: Need POP help- son has broken foot!

My vote would DEFINATELY be the 60's building. I once sprained my ankle pretty bad in college before a trip staying at the All-Stars Movies. I had requested the "Fantasia" building but when we arrived the CM told me that even though there WAS a room available in "Fantasia" it was on the far side of the building, 2nd floor, and at the end of the hall farthest away from the elevator. He then offered that if we WAITED for our room to be ready later that day he could get me a room in a better location in "Fantasia."

So, honestly, even if you get the "60's building" your room can still be inconvenient for a broken foot. If this happens I would nicely ask; "if we wait for more rooms to be ready later today might we be able to get a better room location?"

Good luck!

It probably wouldn't hurt to inquire about other accomodations Disney may recommend for him in his situation. ::wink wink::

Re: Need POP help- son has broken foot!

Call PC directly and explain the situation - they will happy to accomodate you. As far as a wheelchair, I think one may be provided gratis. But you may want to rent a motorized cart at PC. Pushing a wheelchair around WDW can get very tiring indeed.

One more thing - I think folks in wheelchairs as well as the party with them get moved to the front of the line (actually I think it's a handicapped que) at attractions!

Re: Need POP help- son has broken foot!

Thanks for the great suggestions- I think I am going to lock the kids and myself in a padded room so noone else gets injured or sick before we leave!!

Re: Need POP help- son has broken foot!

I think you have to be either 16 or 18 to rent or use the motorized carts, I think you'll have to push him if he needs a wheelchair. I also believe most of the queues are set up for wheelchairs so most people wait in the regular queue or use FPs. Our own Tinkerbell has also mentioned that her DH had to use the HC lines and sometimes they were actually slower than the regular line.

If available, you can get a wheelchair at your resort to use for your whole trip so you don't have to rent one in each park each time you go, it will save lots of time.

Re: Need POP help- son has broken foot!

You have to be 18 to rent them. I think that as long you're with him he can ride the ECV. Or better yet, do what I did last trip and rent from some place off property. It winds up being about the same price for a weekly rental (actually a bit less) and he'll have it to use all the time. It also means that the age limit won't be an issue at the parks. It made for a much easier trip for me to have it already handy (and it's not that difficult to get on and off the busses)

Re: Need POP help- son has broken foot!

I would call POP directly and explain it to them. I am sure they will do what they can to help you.

As far as the parks, you can get a wheelchair. Most of the rides you wait with everyone else but there are a few rides that you get on a little quicker. I think that Disney is trying to make it fair for everyone as I have seen some people that abuse the wheelchair and ECV's because they think it will get them to the front of the line.

The CM's are great and will help you and your son if you need it. I had to use one in May as I too had hurt my foot.
