Cost comparison....Is Dining Plan worth it?

I just priced out our trip and found that the Dining Plan may make the whole deal much more expensive than without it! We're planning on staying 2 nights at POFQ, and then 4 nights at the Beach Club, so we have to split up the MYW passes in order to qualify for the DP. Here's what I came up with:

With Dining Plan:
2 nights at POFQ w/ 1 Day Base pass (3 adults, 1 child): $857
4 nights at BC w/9 Day Pass w/Hopper and No Exp option: $3583
Total = $4440

Without:
2 nights at POFQ: $345
4 nights at BC: $1539
10 day Pass w/Hopper and No Exp bought at www.mapleleaftickets.com: $1461
Total =$3345

The Dining Plan should cost us $750 (for 6 nights) but this is a difference of $1095!! Am I missing something here? Or will I end up paying more than $300 extra for the DP???

Re: Cost comparison....Is Dining Plan worth it?

Why do you have to split the MYW tickets? I have a 7 day hopper and have a split reservation. I was told this wasn't an issue. Your MYW ticket will be on your room key and what is left of it will be transferred to your new key. They don't expire for 14 days after use, so there is no need to get two seperate tickets. If that were the case, no one would split the reservation and stay at the deluxes for half the trip...don't make sense to do that at all..so, the dining will be worth it.

Re: Cost comparison....Is Dining Plan worth it?

I'm with Dana - I don't know why you would have to split up your MYW tickets. I am thinking that the cost is not in the dining but the MYW tickets. Dining is pretty basic - it's $38.00 a day for an adult I believe.

I have to agree with Dana and Palmickey. You should just be able to buy one 10 day ticket for the duration of your ticket, since the ressies are linked.

Re: Cost comparison....Is Dining Plan worth it?

I thought I had read that somewhere....that if you were changing hotels during your stay, you had to buy 2 sets of passes. I hope you guys are right, cause that does change things quite a bit! The new figures I came up with now show the DP being more than worth it!

Thanks!

You must be mistaken. It happens to me all the time. You research so much info. It's easy to make a mistake. You definately don't have to get two sets of tickets. One ten day pass will cover the entire stay and you can have the dining at both places with that same pass. When I called WDW tonight, I asked for you.

Re: Cost comparison....Is Dining Plan worth it?

I think I've read somewhere here that folks with Annual Passes (which I guess don't qualify for the Dining Plan) have purchased single-day passes to add on the Dining Plan. Maybe that's what you're thinking of.

BTW, why are you looking at a 9-day Hopper if you're only going to be there for 6 nights?

If you get the non expiring option, it's more economical to get the 10 days. Cheaper cost per day.

As Kim said, we know that we will be back again someday. Our plan is to use 5 days this time, and save the other 5 days til our next trip. If our son, who will be 8 for our 2007 trip, is 10 yo by the next trip, we'll realize addition savings, as we also then won't have to pay for his upgrade to an adult ticket.

Re: Cost comparison....Is Dining Plan worth it?

We had to have 2 passes in Dec/Jan. We moved from Pop to AKL and to get the dining plan we had to get at least a 1 day ticket so we could get the dining plan! We booked with Disney, so unless they have changed in the last 6 months....... but anything is possible!

Missy, are you saying you only needed a 1 day ticket, or that you needed a 1 day ticket *for each of the hotels you booked*? I know they still require you to purchase a 1 day ticket, meaning, you can't get a package with just the hotel and the dining plan.
