A general laundry question

What is the price for the self-serve washers and dryers in the hotels??? I've never actually tracked down where the laundry room is when I've been there, but last trip we were very tempted to pack light and do laundry, only not knowing if that would cost us a few bucks or if we had to pay someone else dry-cleaning prices curtailed that idea. I've just been reading the WL thread about laundry, and it seems like there are machines guests can use themselves, but are these going to cost us more than regular laundrymats and make it not worth it after all? (We can put up with doing laundry at midnight when there's no one else around, btw, if we h-a-v-e to. :) )

Laundry

I only know of the laundry facilities at Caribbean Beach. Each village at CB has a swimming pool and a building next to the pool. Inside this building is the laundry. You need your room key to gain entry to the laundry room. There are about 20 or so washers and 20 or so dryers in this one room.
A washer is $2 a load (last summers prices) and the dryer is $2 a load. It normally takes their dryers two times to dry the wash load. The dryers seem weaker than the washers. The soap is available by machine at about $2 a box, with a box doing one load. I normally bring a jug of detergent I pick up for 99 cents at one of the -Mart stores and that lasts me my entire vacation. The washers line three walls of the laundry room with dryers stacked above them. In the middle of the room are tables for folding laundry. There are usually one or two laundry carts available for transport, but don't count on one, as they are hard to get. I usually do laundry during the non park down days, with the family swimming in the pool and I bounce in and out of the laundry room. I recommend large plastic bags for laundry transport rather than a laundry basket. The bag will help going to and from the room.
Knowing Disney and their propensity for commonality, this discription is probably accurate for most of their laundry facilities throughout WDW.

We did laundry during our trip last week, and it's still $2 a load to wash and $2 to dry, but you will need to dry twice - the dryer cycle only runs for 30 minutes and your clothes will still be wet when it's complete.

It will save you tons of money if you bring your own detergent. Detergent is a $1 per load, and if you plan on doing a few loads it adds up quickly. My mom found a tiny bottle of Tide (called Tide To Go) at Wal-Mart and brought that - you can get four to five loads out of this one little bottle, I think (we only did two loads).

I've never had a problem with crowds in the laundry rooms - usually there are a few people, but I've never had to fight for a washer or dryer.

We stayed at the All Star Music last December and the laundry was $3 per machine washer/dryer. The machines are on the small side. We had to use three washers and three dryer for the four of us. There was a waiting line for the machines! :D
