I need to know EVERYTHING about the contemporary...

Hi there,

my son (14) and I (not 14) are staying at the Contemporary

12-18 December and as I LOVE over planning every little detail, I'd love to hear about your experiences and tips/ hints to get the most out of our stay at my all time dream hotel.Its the closest thing to star trek I can get at WDW.

We really enjoyed our stay at the Contemporary a few years back.
I don't really have any tips.
It's a very convienent resort to stay in to get to either the MK (boat or monorail) or Epcot (monorail).
It's so easy to visit the other MK resorts from there also.
If you are into it renting a boat and crusing around bay lake is a great way to take in some of the best sights in WDW.

The only thing I can think of is....please rent one of the Water Mice boats from the Contemporary marina!

They are SO MUCH FUN!

Oh wait...they're called Sea Raycers now aren't they?

Okay well whatever they are, they're FUN!

You're staying at the Contemporary, so you'll want to eat at Chef Mickey's and California Grill, so you'd better make reservations for that. You must be in the tower, not the garden wings.

We just did Chef Mickey for breakfast with my DS being 14. I'm not going to go into details so I don't ruin the surprise, but I do have the say the Characters do know how to entertain a 14 year old. We were in tears laughing so hard with the character "harrasssing" my other DS!

Actually the garden wings overlooking the water are not too bad. You don't get the Magic Kingdom but if you spend anytime during the day in your room, you get the action of the watermice etc on the lake.

On the forth floor of the tower you can go out on a deck and watch the fireworks.

I've stayed at both the tower and the wings. For obvious reasons I love the tower(we had a MK view) but the wings are good too. Chef Mickeys is awesome and the food court is just that...a food court. Having the monorail right there is the best. Even walking to or from the MK is not bad either. No matter what you(not 14) and you 14 year old DS do I am sure you are going to really really enjoy yourselves.

When I stayed there it was very enjoyable. My tip is you should walk to the MK because it is a lot quicker than the monorail and the bus.

thanks for your replys.....The games room? is that just video games etc??

the boats sound great, do we hire them by the hour?and do they have motorised boats??is he too young for that?

I can only afford the wings :( so tower is out, unles they take pity on me and my funny accent and upgrade us

we have booked chef mickeys for b'fast....now my josh is "cool" , so will it be too babyish??? I've bribed him by saying they have heaps of waffles/ pancakes etc, and you know boys, the food...its all about the food!

Is there any rooms we should request??

since we are there in december, will the pool be warm enough to swim in??

I'm just so EXCITED!!!!! Josh is as excited as he can get, but wait ill he spys the Kingdom for the first time....hes going to be 4 again :) he's only been to tokyo disney for 1 day.....hes going to love this!

As far as Sea Raycers, they're 9.9 hp outboards with room for two adults or one adult and one child. I'm not sure what the youngest age for a child to go alone, but I'd guess it would have to be 14 at the least. They rent by the half hour. I think you can take it for periods as short as 20 minutes.
Chef Mickey's is of course geared towards the kids, but you can ignore it if you wish. And remind your son, nobody here knows you, or will ever see you again.
As for the pools, they are supposed to be heated, but I'm not going to try tell you if it's warm enough, because I don't know what you consider warm or too cold.

the game room has a snack bar, games, and a big tv to watch what else - the disney channel.

it is actually pretty neat.....

The snack bar is supposed to be open 24 hours, but it might not serve hot food after such and such hour.
