When I spoke to the CM at hotel reservations they said only 4 people were allowed per room. How strict are they about that? I ask because here is the situation.
I first made reservations when the passholder rates came out. I had asked my sister and brother if either wanted me to hold a room for them. They both declined at the time. They said they would call to make their own reservation (this is for December). So I booked two rooms...one for us (myself, dh, and DS who is 4.5 yrs old) and a room for my parents. We got a great rate of $134 a night. So three weeks later my brother attempts to make a reservation at AKL but all the passholder rooms are long gone. He wasnt happy but he was okay with booking the POR. So about a week ago my sister (it is her, her dh, and two toddlers) was saying she was considering going with everyone in December but she didnt want to make a reservation. She was thinking that she would take the second room at AKL and that my parents would either stay with us in our room so she could have the second room, or my parents would stay with her and her family in the second room. At first it didnt seem like a bad idea. However, then dh and I were thinking...if my parents stay with us that means ds would have to sleep in the bed with us. When Ds sleeps he is all over the place. Sideways, the opposite end of the bed, etc. It would not be very comfortable for dh and I to have elbows in our face or getting kicked all night. And if I were to call for a cot I would think the resort would catch on that we have more then the 4 people in the room. They think it is 3...why would we need a cot when there are 2 queen beds in the room. And my sister now puts one toddler in a bed with her and one toddler in a bed with her dh. Which leaves no place for my parents to sleep. If they put the youngest in a playyard to sleep, and the oldest in the bed with them, that would leave the second bed for my parents. Sounds good but last night we mentioned it to my dad and he flat out said he didnt want to share a room with them. They did it once and it was crowded and he preferred not to do it again. My dh has the attitude that we asked my sister before we made our reservations if she wanted a room..she declined..and waited too long to make her plans..now she has to find her on place to stay. Which, by the way, she did. She booked a Value resort and then proceeded to call me and say "we probably wont even see you guys now since we are so far away from where you and D (our brother) are staying". She is just trying to make me feel guilty I think for telling her I didnt think the sharing a room was going to work because of the resort's 4 person policy and the fact that it would be suspicious for me to ask for a cot. She thinks I am over-reacting and that we should just do the cot thing and they would never even question it. Which leads me to how strict are they about this kind of thing??? What would you do??? |

Re: Animal Kingdom Resort - # of guest per room
TO be honest and try not to sound too mean at the same time, I think your sister is being big time inconsiderate and she should make her own reservation. After all, you gave her and your brother a chance to get rooms with y'all. At least your brother was understanding enough and made his own reservation. I mean come on, because she has to stay at a Value resort she won't see you guys cuz you are too far away??????? That is utterly ridiculous
I think your sister is trying to have her cake and eat it too. She wants you to do all the work making reservations (I know it isn't really alot of work, but still) and getting the good deal on the room. But then she wants you to displace your family or your folks so that she can get in easy? Sounda a lil like the Ant and Grasshopper story to me.

Re: Animal Kingdom Resort - # of guest per room
They probably will find out and they are not flexable on the rules since it is a rule by the Fire marshal that dictates how many in that size room. The AKL standard rooms are small for a deluxe (almost 100 sqft smaller than a Contemporary or Polynesian standard room) so even squeezing in that many might be very uncomfortable. Also they keep track of how many are in each room because they charge $25 a night extra for the 3rd and 4th adult in each room. Not that it is impossible to get around but is the comfort and stress of getting caught worth it?

I think your sister should make her own reservation and "deal with it"..
Now..I know how hard that would be to say that to your sister..so, your other option is they sometimes have rooms with daybeds in them (i think with the 2 queens but I am not sure..) but honestly, i think everyone would be happy with their own space at the end of the day.

Re: Animal Kingdom Resort - # of guest per room
When we went x-mas of 2004 our whole family went. My DIL's and BILS stayed at the resort with us- my SIL & her family of 5 stayed off property at a timeshare resort. She wasn't even on Disney property and had no problem meeting up with us everyday. Tell your sister it won't be a problem to meet up if she does actually want to. There is NO WAY i'd squish my family like that when she was so inconsiderate.
FYI- I'm a TA and children under 3 are not considered "people" in rooms. Ie- I have twin 4 yr olds and a 2 year old and can go in a 4 person max room in All Stars etc. So if any of your sisters kids are under 3 you would be okay. The "deluxe" rooms at AKL hold 5 people if you can upgrade. Also- AKL is not that far from All-Stars anyway.

Re: Animal Kingdom Resort - # of guest per room
I have to agree with kingomiami on this one. Having that many people in a room at the aKL is going to be seriously, seriously cramped and uncomfortable. Let them go to POR or where ever they want, but I would not shove them in your room. Why should you have to sleep all jammed up like that? sorry, sister or not, I would tell her to get her own room...in a nice way of course. The AKL rooms are not nig in the least. I would be uncomfortable with over three in that room. Most people would say 4 is to much. Your sister should have jumped on the price when you offered it.

Re: Animal Kingdom Resort - # of guest per room
There are no rooms at the AKL (outside of the suites) that sleep 5 over the age of 3. The deluxe rooms are only 40 sqft larger and have the same option for sleeping. You either get one queen with bunk beds, two queens or a King with a day bed. As susieq76 mentioned kids under 3 are not counted against the max of 4 room total but you can only do one beyond the max that is under 3.

First off, trying to put 6 people in 1 room with 1 bathroom, is totally rediculous. Expecially, if you don't HAVE too. We were trying to do that with friends when we went to Cinncinnati because they don't have much money and have never taken a vacation. We were NUTS..the good news was, the hotel screwed up, and we ended up getting 2 rooms for less than the originaly cost. After that happened, we realized that 6 people in one room is at least 2 people to much. Secondly, the hotel would see it, because of the room key. My son had his own room key at the Contemporary, and he is only 3. So they would see it. I agree with everyone else. She needs to make her own reservations. |

Well, as for me, I'm a glutton for punishment. I look forward to not having any sleep inbetween exhausting days with my parents in a crowded park.. I say let your son crawl in. That way not only you, but also your husband won't get any real sleep. But your sister will be comfortable. And that, apparently, is important...

Re: Animal Kingdom Resort - # of guest per room
what about bringing an "airbed" that blows up with a pump? it would keep you from needing a cot....BUT...i do tend to agree that it is still going to be super cramped with all those people in one room.
~~a side note / question...to anyone who includes extended family members in your vacation plans....is it worth it?? i mean wouldn't you have a better time if you weRe with just your DH & kids? call me crazy....but i have tried it 2 times and will never do it again...it's only asking for trouble...at least when it involves my extended family!!...LOVE THEM, BUT LEAVE THEM AT HOME!! lol |
