Love Bugs

Hi All,

My parents might go down to WDW next fall. I was talking to my Mom and mentioned that I had read a lot about the love bug problem this past fall. My question is.... Are the Love bugs just really bad in Sept. or in Oct. also?

Sorry, but I don't know anything about your concern, but I had no idea what in the world a Love Bug was, and I looked it up, and...

Re: Love Bugs

Love bugs are pretty dead by early October, say the 10th. They are also bad in May, or used to be. Lucky, they don't make it to South Florida.

Re: Love Bugs

We've gone twice in September, and after the first day there, you really don't even notice them. They become a part of the scenery. (Mind you I come from a house full of boys, so bugs don't "bug" me!)

Re: Love Bugs

I wouldn't let them stop my trip.

Now, Japanese beetles (up here in the mid-west) that's another story. When those suckers swarm, you've got to stay indoors.

Re: Love Bugs

here in p'cola, fl the love bugs were thick in early sept. (i know the 12th to be exact...it was a special day for our family...love bugs swarmed and made for lots of comments in video taken that day...which i viewed again just this past sunday.) but they are really not abig deal. they are usually (and were) gone by the 1st of october. we are located in the panhandle of florida about an 8 hour dive from orlando. hope that helps!

~one thing you might want to mention to your mom is that lovebugs are attracted to white...like magnets!!! they will cover anything white. so best not to wear white if you can aviod it.

Re: Love Bugs

Thanks all. I don't know if the love bugs would keep me from going. But I know that my Mom would not want to go when they are around. Especially if there is another time when they aren't around.

Re: Love Bugs

Once the weather cooled off a bit they dissappeared. I would say there were gone by mid-October, but bearly noticable by the end of September. Good Luck with the Planning!

Re: Love Bugs

I was there Oct. 5-10 this year, and they were EVERYWHERE! Love bugs on the car, lovebugs on the rides, lovebugs on our towels at Blizzard Beach, love bugs on us... you get the picture.
The only place there weren't was on my trip report! I never took a picture of them, but they were there. Maybe I should have!
However, don't let this deter anybody from going! They were not this bad when we were there the same time in 2004. And, they're just love bugs, so they don't hurt anything. They're kinda 'ugh' but it's not like lots of roaches or centipedes running around! That should put it in perspective!

Re: Love Bugs

I dont mind the love bugs either they seem pretty docile and busy with what they're doing ! but I dont know about an infestation of them that would be pretty horrid.

Re: Love Bugs

I had never before heard reference to the Love Bug, although, now that I've seen a picture http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...oflovebugs.jpg, it strikes a familiar chord.

It seems to me that if you're driving, they could be a nuisance, but for the most part, you may not even notice them as they don't bite/sting. Just make sure not to sit on them...

They're also not out at night....

Re: Love Bugs

Love bugs are cyclical. This year was the worse that I can remember in a long, long time. We usually go down around the same time each year, and in prior years don't really remember them
