Value Resorts ?
My wife and I have already made reservations for Coronado Springs for December 2007, But were considering downgrading to a Value resort to save about $450 . Can anyone whos stayed at any of the value resorts give some advice ? I know this is a weird request considering its Disney world....but I would like to find out which Value resort would have least amount of big groups of kids. We stayed at Carribean Beach last year, and there were mainly small families there. Wife,Husband, and one or 2 kids. Never any bigger than that.Im afraid b/c the value resorts are not near as expensive, that's where we'll find all the big family groups. I dont want to have to "battle" them for the shuttle or the food court. Last year standing in line waiting for the shuttle to go back to the hotel, I was just looking around noticing the lines for the different hotels, and there really is a difference in size and age groups.Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Value Resorts ?
When are you going in December? There's a week when Pop Warner is there, and I wouldn't want to be anywhere NEAR All-Star Sports that week... or any of the All-stars, for that matter.

Re: Value Resorts ?
of any of the values I would recommend pop century it tends to not have as many tour groups or big groups as the all stars but if its at PoP warner time it might not be able to get a room due to the the sports teams being there

Re: Value Resorts ?
This year pop warner is the first week in December. It is not only going to take over all the all-stars, but the moderates as well. (we were told POR AND POFQ would be nearly full of conference people) Maybe check out the pop warner website and see if 2007 dates are posted yet?
If Pop Warner is not an issue at all, IMHO $450 is a signifigant amount of money, and I dont feel that moderates are worth that much more. Basic differences are: 1. Moderates have a hottub and values dont 2. MOST moderates have a sit-down resturant 3. Moderates pools are themed more so than values 4. Moderate rooms are a TINY bit bigger Good luck with planning! I hope everything works out! |

Re: Value Resorts ?
We had previously stayed at POFQ and Coronado, then last year we decided to try POP Century. We saved enough money on the room to pay for the dining plan. We were very pleasantly surprised! Yes, the rooms are smaller and they don't have a fridge, but all in all it was a great experience.
To be fair, we were there at the end of Jan. so the crowds were very light, but we didn't have any problems with noise or groups of kids. The only downside was that the food court was very crowded in the mornings, but nothing so terrible that we wouldn't stay there again. I say save your $$ and try Pop!!!

Re: Value Resorts ?
I am wondering the same thing. We are going next year to take advantage of the free dining, and I want to book the trip while I am there (in 9 days!). I have ALWAYS wanted to stay at Port Orleans, but since $$ are an issue these days, I am REALLY thinking of staying at POP. POP will be $82 a night, and POR will be $145 a night. We will probably be staying 8 nights. As of now, I'm leaning towards POP. My 5 year old REALLY wants to stay there! (I showed him all of the WDW resorts on the new Planning DVD!) Ultimately we HATE how small the room is, but to save a nice chunk of change, I'm thinking I'm gonna go for POP!

Re: Value Resorts ?
We finally stayed at All Star Music last month and have stayed at Caribbean Beach and PORiverside this year as well. The thing I hated about ASM was the room lighting, it was hideous and harsh. It seemed so out of the way from everything else down there. The mods are a little nicer, but we're spoiled by staying at most of the deluxe resorts. When money is a factor, downsize your hotel budget, stay at mods or values. If it isn't as much of an issue, Wilderness Lodge rates aren't much more than mods and Swolphin is usually only a couple dollars more than a mod and puts you in walking distance to two parks and Fantasia Golf.

Re: Value Resorts ?
I'd agree that PC is probably the better choice, but if you pick an AS, I think Music is probably the best. We stayed there and even with some band competition going on, it wasn't horribly crowded. I've heard that Sports & Movies are usually more full than Music because of the theming. I know others have put threads about one of the AS's now offering two-room suites if space is an issue, and it may still be cheaper than a room at a mod.

Re: Value Resorts ?
We've stayed at YC and at AS-Mu and were very happy with both. I cannot justify the difference in money to stay in the Mods or Deluxe right now! We don't stay in the room much, so saving $450 would definantly win me over to the values. Even when the food court was crowded, it wasn't bad. They handle crowds well and moved everything along quickly. Breakfast was the busiest. I was very pleased with the rooms, lighting, amenities, etc at the AS. I had heard how small they are, but compared with any other hotel chain, they're about the same to me. It was me, DH and 3 yo with ALOT of luggage and we were still very comfortable. Just my opinion, but I'll go with the AS and save the money for other stuff!

Re: Value Resorts ?
All Star Music has family suites. We were in Jazz 9 and the second floor where we were seemed to be mostly suites. The room we had was a handi ready king, even though we didn't need the extra accessability. The shower was interesting. But I'm serious about the lighting being hideous. There were two lights over the bed on one switch and one on the opposite wall above the table. They were just too harsh and too bright most of the time. If that's the big complaint, it's probably fine for you.

Re: Value Resorts ?
My advice would be to check with the Disney Wide World of Sports calendar of events for the dates you will be there. Many of the groups (teams) staying at All-Star resorts are involved in tournaments, etc. at WWS. For instance, my daughter's select soccer team played in a tournament there a few years ago and most of the teams (as well as parents, siblings, etc.) stayed at All-Star sports resort or one of the other all-stars. You can check the calendar of events online.

Re: Value Resorts ?
I would recommend PC over the All Stars. There are ALWAYS some sort of school function going on at WDW, and the get put in the All Stars--starting with Sports.
Aside from Pop Warner week, you'll find PC to be families. With a room limit of 4 people, bigger families are looking at suites.

Re: Value Resorts ?
As a matter of fact, Pop Century has a charter that's slightly different from the other values: they don't allow large groups.
Now, that doesn't mean that the occasional family of 6 or 7 will be there, but you'll never see a high school group or a tour bus. The Pop Century is also in a better location than the All-Stars. It's a shorter bus ride to everywhere except Blizzard Beach and Animal Kingdom. Frankly, it's in a better location than even Coronado. Hope this helps.

Re: Value Resorts ?
Oh, I forgot to add that PC is a very nice place to stay. The rooms are kind of small for a family of 4 (IMO), but for a couple, it would be fine.
