Animal Kingdom or French Quarter

We are ready to book our trip to POFQ. I recently saw the prices for AK and for a little bit more price we can be in a Deluxe Resort. Have DS age 11 and DD age 8. Our main focus on the trip will be the parks and seeing the characters. We are planning on staying 9 nights. One day at each park. One day at water park. One day at downtown. One day that the kids pick and one day to do nothing but sit by the pool. Would AK for a bit more price be worth it???

Yes - It is so worth the price. Your kids will be amazed at what they will see at AKL. It is certainly one resort everyone should experience at least once, and if you can get a good price, that's all the better. Also, the bussing is magnificent. They do not share the busses with any other resort. We have never waited more than 10 minutes for a bus. I highly recommend you try it.

YES, YES, YES, and YES!!!

ANIMAL KINGDOM LODGE!! TRY IT!!!

Your children will LOVE it!! The animal viewing locations, even if you are NOT in a safari room are AWESOME! There are so many CMs there waiting to inform you about the savannah and the animals. There are often craft projects going on in the lobby, the pool is beautiful and peaceful and has a nice waterslide for the wee ones, a playground area right near the pool, The Mara which is right off the pool area is a GREAT counter service place, and the rooms in the lodge are absolutely beautiful and authentic.

LOVE IT, it's my FAVORITE resort!!!

If you can swing the extra money, the deluxes are always nicer to stay at. AKL is the least pricey, so, it's your best bet, Wilderness Lodge is the second best bet dollar wise.

Your kids are young enough to be quite exhausted at the end of the day and will do quite well at anyplace you stay. A day at AK is plenty animal enough. Stay at the Quarter and spend the extra cash at the BOMA buffet!

Re: Animal Kingdom or French Quarter

Yes, it would be worth it. Once you have tried it (and it sounds like you're comfortable with the cost) then you can make an informed decision in future. Resort preference questions are so subjective and it is always a great idea to try out as many Disney resorts that appeal to you and that you can afford because you just never know until you try. It's very similar to the mentality at the parks when people won't try things because they think they won't like it or someone else said that they didn't like it. Try as many different Disney experiences as possible - they are always worth it. I've been to WDW 20 times and have never been bored for 1 single minute because they have so much to choose from both at the parks and the resorts. Have a magical trip wherever you decide to stay!

Mickey just quoted me a price for Animal Kingdom Lodge that I almost could not turn down. You should get in touch with Mousketrips and see what they have. It was soooo much cheaper with them then the quote for the exact time of the year and total days then I could find on the Disney website. Something like 9 nights in mid November with food and park tickets for $3100.00.

Animal Kingdom Lodge!
The only thing is the price you were quoted which is not much more than POFQ is most likley for a standard room..which usually faces the parking lot...we sprung for AKL because we ALWAYS dreamed of staying there but the Savanna views were just too much...but we got lucky and got an awesome room where you stood on the balcony chairs..you could see lots of animals!
We loved it..and it is worth the extra money!

Thanks for all the great advice. Have to sit down with the Mrs. and decide if the AKL will be worth the extra price. By reading review, I am only worried about the time spent on the bus.

Well think of it this way..at POFQ you have to share a bus with POR which is HUGE....and has more than one busstop...
We found that bus service was actually BETTER at AKL than anywhere we had stayed before (POP and POR) AND we barley stood even though the park was crowded AND...yes, AND....more than once we had a bus to ourselves...

Re: Animal Kingdom or French Quarter

I say go for AKL!!!!

We just came back from a great stay at POFQ. It was perfect for my DH, DD5 and DS 3s first trip, but I think an older child might have more fun at AKL--even if it's just at the pool! THe pool at POFQ was just right for my little ones, but an older child might not be so impressed after the first half hour. Then there is everything else the AKL offers--the dining choices, the single resort bus service, the animals, the story telling...

Another BIG PLUS to AKL is the bedding options. At POFQ you'll have two doubles, but at AKL you'll have two QUEENS or one queen and a set of bunkbeds.

Re: Animal Kingdom or French Quarter

We have stayed twice at the POFQ, so I really can not be of much help, except if the cash flow is there, go ahead and try AKL. Good Luck with your decision.

You'll probably spend less time on the bus at AKL. Don't forget to let us know what you decide!

I have stayed at both, and, I really like both, but, I would pick AKL in a heartbeat!
