January Deluxe resorts

I have noticed that most of the deluxe resorts seem to be sold out during the week in Jan that we are going. We are staying in a wlv studio and were told there were no other studios available. I know jan is a supposed to be a slow time so i it just that adults go this time of year and spend more on the hotel than would a family with kids and such?

Re: January Deluxe resorts

I'm not sure. Sometimes there are events like the PGA tournements that cause the deluxe resorts to be booked, but as you get closer to the actual dates, reservations will be cancelled and you will probably be able to change. I had this happen a few years ago in October during the Buick Classic. I wanted Contemporary Tower and all that was available were suites in the wings. I booked the Poly, but 10 days out called and found rooms in the tower had opened up.

Re: January Deluxe resorts

they had a promotion that made it almost as cheap to stay at the nicer resorts than at the discount ones- we took advantage of that as well- perhaps that is what you are running into?

Re: January Deluxe resorts

No, it's probably because this is SUCH a LOW points time for DVC members. They fill up all the studios & villas because it costs us nearly nothing to stay in January. That's why DH & I are going in January

Re: January Deluxe resorts

There are a lot of conferences in January as well. I am going the 19th-25th to a conference that has all of the EPCOT resorts pretty much filled up!

Re: January Deluxe resorts

So even though the resorts are filling up, can we still expect lower crowds in the parks in January?

Re: January Deluxe resorts

In my experiance the crowds will still be much lower. The conference I go to runs from 8am till 6pm and most of the attendies really do attend the sessions. Since this is an IT conference there is a high percentage of single people to families there, this also helps keep the crowds down. However, the bars in the EPCOT resorts & Boardwalk will be hopping all night.

Re: January Deluxe resorts

Something I have noticed over the past few years when we have been in January. There were large numbers of tour groups (mostly from Brazil), and they were staying in the deluxe resorts.

The crowd level when I go (this year its the 13th-20th) is pretty light---its a bit busier around the MLK holiday, but by midweek is pretty dead.

I sure hope so ~ in Jan 2005 the parks were empty for the mid two weeks we were there, even with MLK Holiday
