Pool closing at WL?

I just read on mouse buzz that the main pool is going to be closed at the Wilderness Lodge when we are there in Feb? That seems so unfair. Its our first trip and the little ones are sooooo excited to swim. What should I do - all of the other hotels are booked I think. :(

Re: Pool closing at WL?

I believed that in someone's trip report, they spoke with a CM who said that WL guests could use FW pool. I may be wrong...hopefully someone will chime in here with more information.

Re: Pool closing at WL?

They do have a quiet pool at WL which is really nice. Plus, it may be too cold in Feb. to swim - you never know.

Re: Pool closing at WL?

There are two pools at WL the main pool and the pool at the villas, they are very close together. You could pool hop and visit the pools at the Poly or the pool across the bay at the contemporary. FW has also two pools that may be used, nobody will question if you are from the campground or from another resort. I would not get worked up about it. You will have a great time.

Re: Pool closing at WL?

I found this info on my Mousebuzz newsletter... Its a little bothersome

"Wilderness Lodge's Silver Creek Springs pool and hot tub will be closed for refurbishment January 29 though March 2, 2007.
--The Wilderness Lodge Kiddie Pool will also be closed February 12 through March 2, 2007.

Re: Pool closing at WL?

I hate to say this, but they are taking the pool down in the dead of winter so it will be up in time for Easter. It was the time that would cause the least disruption. I'm sorry that this is during your vacation, but they need to maintain the pools. I'm sure they've made some sort of arraingments for guests. And who knows, it could be too cold to swim.

Re: Pool closing at WL?

FW and WL are managed by the same group, you can use their pool. Although it's not exactly convenient, at least you can swim.

Re: Pool closing at WL?

We went one year and were able to stay at the Beach Club. DD was so excited to be able to swim at Stormalong Bay. We get to the resort and the pool is closed for rehab. As we are checking in DD is in tears and the CM asks what is wrong. DD explains how badly she wanted to swim at SaB and the CM was really touched. They gave us a set of free passes to Typhon Lagoon. Made it a lot better to take, lol. And fortunatly it was warm enough to use them!

You can only pool-hop if you're a DVC member...

Your best bet would be the quiet pool at the Villas of WL. It's a nice pool..not quite as exciting as the main pool, but most convenient for you...or if it's warm enough try one of the waterparks.

Re: Pool closing at WL?

I have never seen guests at any resort pool quized as to where they were staying or being denied the use of any pool. It seems like they have more important things to worry about.

Re: Pool closing at WL?

My TA just confirmed the refurbishment too! She offered to switch us to another resort....so we did! We are now at AK!!! We love both places, so it was not a big deal for us. What is a big deal, is having a swim before bed each night....its kind of a tradition every trip...we would really miss it if we couldn't do it on this one too.
