ASMu - 2 rms or Family Suite?

I have booked 2 rooms at ASMu for 4 nts of our 8 nt trip in August and was told by the CM that she can't note my request for connecting rooms because there are Family Suites at that resort. She said that the only thing to do is to request this at check-in. I got a AAA/CAA discount on the rooms, so they come in around $50 or so cheaper per night ($200 total) than the suite which does not qualify for any discounts. The advantages to the suite would be that we are guaranteed to be together, a fridge is included and the buildings are in a preferred location. We are a family of 5 (me, DH and DD's 17, 12 & 12). Would you spend the extra $ on the suite or just hope for the best with the two rooms?

For the ages of your kids I would hope for the best with 2 rooms. Even if they were not right next your kids are old enough.

I think it is a cop out when they say they cannot say for sure you will get them together. I think they say that with all values, not just ASMu.

Good luck! I would for sure not do the suite.

I thought it was disney policy that if there was a guest under 18 in the rooms they would make sure they were connected

Maybe call back and speak to a different CM, they might have a better answer for you

I think this is the case. Even when we have booked two rooms with my in-laws our paper work has always read guaranteed connecting rooms.

Disney is notorious for giving five different answers to the same question - call back again and explain that your children are under 18. I wouldn't go for the suite. Two rooms give you two bathrooms.

Re: ASMu - 2 rms or Family Suite?

We travelled many times to POR with my mum, and on only one occasion (when the girls were just little ones) did they not put us in connecting rooms (even though I begged and waited a few extra hours to check in hoping for availability). We were adjoining rooms, but not connecting. I would imagine if our party consisted of only one adult that it would be guaranteed, but with 2 or more adults that isn't the case. Regardless of their ages, we like to be in the same or connecting rooms on our vacations - it is very important to us. I really wouldn't feel right being separated, so I guess if it's that important I pretty much answered my own question! We need to pay the extra for the suite. Thanks everyone for letting me think out loud!!!!

ITA - I've experienced the different answer from different people to the same question phenomenon at WDW quite a few times! The suite does give you two bathrooms - it's just two regular rooms combined. The room with the entry door has the pull-outs which accommodate 4 people; the second room has a queen bed, armchair and desk, and there is also a small kitchenette with a fridge, coffeemaker, microwave, sink and storage along with 2 bathrooms which are set up the same as the regular rooms. We would gain the guarantee of being together, a queen-sized bed for DH and myself, a fridge and a preferred building location all included in the price. Unfortunately they don't qualify for any discounts. I will definitely call back and see if I can get someone else to note my connecting room request and if not, I'll probably switch to a suite. Thanks again for all responses.

Re: ASMu - 2 rms or Family Suite?

I agree with calling back. It seems they are trying to make you pay more by selling you a suite, and I really don't think WDW would do this.

Get the suite. Then you don't have to worryabout anything. All of you are together and all your bags will be together too. I wouldn't chance it.

To me, one of the most important things when traveling with kids is bathroom time. With two rooms you get two bathrooms.

Stick with your original plan.
