Re: Please Help Pick Resort For Are Aug. Stay @WDW

Well, if you've already stayed at POFQ and want a different moderate, I'd go with POR - cause then you'll be close to POFQ.

With a 3 year old, I'd go for the easiest and smallest - and thats FQ. I think it's the perfect resort for small children.

Caribbean Beach has beautiful grounds - but it's so huge.

Not a fan of Coronado Springs. It was SO, SO huge - plus the convention crowds - no, not my fav.

Any chance of a good deal at Wilderness Lodge?

I like the luxury of the newly remolded contemporary and my DS loves trains. Now my DH likes the price of value to moderate. And I would love to make it super fun for my 3 almost 4 yr old DS. So I like the look and feel of the All star movies Toy Story wing for him!
Oh, and I forgot to mention this will be the first family Vacation for us. My DH has been away for the past 2 yrs on deploment with the Army!!

And Thanks so much for your help!!!!
If your husband is in the military, have you considered Shades of Green?

Shades of Green is nice but it seems to lack the Mickey Mouse feel. And besides after two years of Army wife life 24/7, I kind of want to get away from military. (if you get what I mean! )

Thanks for the welcome too! I have been here since June 2006, but just now got up the nerve to talk to anyone!

Re: Please Help Pick Resort For Are Aug. Stay @WDW

If your DH is active duty military, you should be able to stay at Shades of Green. Additionally, the lower his rank, the less you're charged. In other words, a sergent pays less than a Major.
If not, I guess I'd steer you to ASMovies or Pop. If you had the cushion room in your budget, I'd stay in the Contemporary tower.
Edit: Re: SoG I'm not sure that anyone even has their uniforms with them, but I can imagine you'd like to take a break from the same people all the time. I can also see how there would be less Disney theming there.
Swan and Dolphin are usually less expensive than even Wilderness Lodge and most times, you can get an AAA discount.

Welcome to MouseBuzz!

I hope you can decide on a resort, there are so many great ones to pick from and each has something wonderful to offer.

We have stayed at Shades of Green and it didn't feel at all military to us. There is a lack of Disney around the resort but it's really beautiful. We were in the new part and our room was huge and looked every bit as nice as the deluxe rooms at a Disney resort. If cost is an issue don't write this resort off just yet.

Re: Please Help Pick Resort For Are Aug. Stay @WDW

Save alot of money. Tell your husband to go through PX and stay at SHADES OF GREEN. Price depends on rank, hotel was the Disney Institute (a LUXURY RESORT) I think a General only pays like 200/night, you can walk to MK!!

Re: Please Help Pick Resort For Are Aug. Stay @WDW

I did deluxe, moderate and value, and I got hook on All-star Movie. For my DS now 7 it was great. The value sites are very kids oriented with oversize Disney characters, fun theme pools, it's great to just have a walk on the resort site with your kids. Also good for adult kids

The rooms, for my experience it was the same size, just instead of having a marble countertop(Poly) it was a basic countertop(Mov), plastic shelves instead of wood, etc...

Cost will not be an issue with us and feel we should leave Shades of green for the more deserving lower ranked military. I also found out that they charge 5.00 a day for parking at SoG and we are driving to WDW. As far as Value resorts I am leaning still on All Star Movie/ Toy Story. But the more I read the harder time I have! Thanks for all the great help so far Everyone!!!!

The rooms are VERY small at the Values. Just be aware of that. And the All- Stars often host sports teams and cheerleaders So they can be very noisy and busy. As Soundgod suggested - have you looked into either the Swan or Dolphin - they're smack in the middle of WDW - not Disney - but whimsical enough to be- and you get the benefit of most Disney "perks". (If you weren't told, you probably wouldn't know it wasn't a Disney hotel).

Re: Please Help Pick Resort For Are Aug. Stay @WDW

Dolphin even has an officially sanctioned Disney character breakfast.
The rooms are small at the values and I've found that the parking for the preferred rooms is not close. They charge $8 and soon to be $10 for self parking at the Swan and Dolphin. Self parking at WL, AKL, Contemporary, Poly Yacht and Beach are all fairly close to the buildings. GF and Boardwalk self parking are across the street. Your parking at the parks is supposed to be included at Swan and Dolphin, but I've never been given anything. Maybe you have to show your key? All Disney resorts issue standard parking passes that are good at your resort, any resort you are visiting for dining and recreation, and all of the gated park parking lots, that is, the 4 main parks. Water Parks are free, as is DTD.
