Re: Please Help Pick Resort For Are Aug. Stay @WDW
If your arrival date is in August 1-3 I can get you a room at the Polynesian for $237 (rack rate is $329) per night and a discount on your park tickets.
The rooms at the Polynesian were just renovated as well as most of the resort and you will have access from the monorail. |

Caribbean Beach and POR didn't really float my boat. Too spread out and I didn't like having 4 bus stops on property. That's just me.

Re: Please Help Pick Resort For Are Aug. Stay @WDW
Welcome to MB! Great people hang hear and will have any answer for almost every question you may have.
We've stayed at CBR several times and absolutely love it there. You check in at the Guest House and the resort is set up in sections with island names. Trinidad N. and Martinique are preferred room priced since they are on either side of Olde Port Royale (OPR) which houses the food court, shops and main pool. They are with in walking distance. Aruba and Jamaica are across the lake, a very short walk depending on where your room is. Trinidad S. is the farthest and Barbados is far and noisy due to it being close to the entrance. Each island has it's own quiet pool, beach w/ hammocks, playground and laundry facilities. All are absolutely beautiful w/ the colors and landscaping. OPR has a food court and Shutter's restaurant, along with a grab and go food mart (small) and a small gameroom. There is a nice size gift shop for souvenirs and necessities and another shop carrying island clothing. The main pool is fun too. There is a slide and cannons shoot water. They have a pool type bar for adults outside near the main pool. We've stayed in Jamaica, Bldg. 41 which was perfect. The bus was a minute walk across the parking lot, pool around the corner and OPR was about a 5 minute walk. We've also stayed in Trinidad N., which I would highly recommend. OPR was a short hop across the parking lot. The resort also has an internal bus for those who have a long walk. It is very close to MGM, EPCOT, DTD and TL. Also, make sure you request a ground floor room as you could wind up on the opposite end of the building from the stairs. We had a courtyard/lake view room on our last stay and it was perfect. Ok then, that's all I can think of at the moment. Enjoy your planning and hope this might have helped in your decision on a resort.

Re: Please Help Pick Resort For Are Aug. Stay @WDW
We just returned from our trip yesterday. We have stayed at many WDW resorts. I think our favorite when you look at amenities and cost is the Carribean Beach Resort. We stayed at POP this time and were not impressed - bus service was terrible, rooms were small, and the workers were not friendly.
Love the theme of the CBR, rooms are a bit larger, food court is spread out.

Re: Please Help Pick Resort For Are Aug. Stay @WDW
We stayed at Shades of Green last December and it was very good. Yes, it doesn't have as much of the Disney theme as some of the other properties (room decor, sheets, etc) but they do have a six foot tall Mickey in the lobby w/ stars & stripes that you can take portraits with. The resort does not feel "military" AT ALL, just a great Deluxe resort. There is a small AAFES shopette in the resort and you can buy your military discount tickets for Disney or other Orlando attractions there too. The restaurants are also good, and a bit more reasonably priced than some of the Disney ones. Even if you don't stay at SoG, you can use these 'services' with your ID card. The only drawback can be the transportation. The bus runs every 15 minutes to the TTC, but the buses to other places only run every hour. Most of the time, we did the 10 minute walk across the street to the Poly, then hopped on the monorail. We saw several turkey and colorful birds druing this walk. If you take the bus to the TTC, its an easy walk to the boat launch across the lake to MK.
As far as not going to SoG because others are "more deserving", if your DH has spent the last two years deployed, there is NO ONE more deserving for a great vacation at SoG than YOU!!!! Prezcatz Paul
