Spring Decision 2008
Hey gang! I rarely venture onto the WDW side of MB, because I have never been to WDW yet!
Anyways, my wife is a teacher, so we are very likely to make our next Disney trip during Spring Break '08 with another teacher's family too. I feel like I know DL inside and out, but I am totally ignorant of WDW. For my family it will be myself, DW, DD10, DS8, DD3. The other family is two adults and two young girls.Coming from the west coast (Portland area) I sometimes see that it really isn't that much more expensive to go to WDW than DL for us. So I would love to hear some thoughts from any of you, but I would especially love to hear from fellow west coasters with WDW experience. Tips? Thoughts? Anything! Most of all, why should my family (and friends) visit WDW for Spring Break '08??? ![]()

Re: Spring Decision 2008
I voted for disneyland, just because of crowds. You don't want crowds AND expense...
But WDW is well worth it, I intend to go there again, but not to sure about during spring break!

Re: Spring Decision 2008
I voted for WDW. While I know that some of the attractions are the same, there are enough differences that it's worth a trip across the country.
First, there are 4 theme parks. Each one has a different character and theme (especially AK which is the most different from DL/DCA). Second, there are about 30 different resort hotels on property each with it's own unique theme and a wider variety in cost, so there's a much greater choice involved in where to stay. Finally, it'll be a new experience for your family which is always kinda cool.

Re: Spring Decision 2008
I hesitantly voted for WDW, only because I don't know when your spring break is and to venture to WDW for the first time during crowds could be disappointing. We've been several times during Spring Break, but had a spring break been my 1st time to WDW...it would have been overwhelming. I guess since you already are familiar with the rides and the layout (I'm assuming DL & Magic Kingdom are similiar...it's been 30 yrs since I've been to DL) that part would cut down on the anxiety. Also knowing that there is SO much more Disney to cover at WDW, you can really explore and stay away from the crowds.
Our 1st trip was mid-April of 99 and it was AWESOME...guess some may consider that spring break, but we didn't think about that since our kids weren't in school yet. If it did fall in the SB category, it was NOT bad at all! We've been mid-March 2 times and all in all the crowds weren't bad, but having a few trips under our belts (and BDavis as our guide) we did everything we wanted and knew where to be and how to do it (Fast Passes,Extra hours, etc) to juggle crowd levels. We used the Crowd Predictor and found it to be pretty accurate too. We, unlike Dana, opt to enter the parks around 10-11am, but we stay as long as they're open...sometimes until 2 or 3AM!!! Talk about no crowds!! & no sunburn....all the folks with little ones turn in pretty early so the crowds thin down pretty quickly. Our kids are easy to adjust to new/temp sleep patterns...so it's usually late to bed, late to wise and all the fun we can have in the parks/DTD after dark!! Plus we love the 'feel' the parks have after dark...it just feels different in a different light. You HAVE to experience WDW, so all that said....go for it!!! The weather has always been great, warm enough for the water parks and pools, yet cool enough not to melt or be constantly drinking in fear of dehydration. The week before Christmas has become my favorite time to go, even tho we can't really do the water parks...the rest makes up for it!! The next trips we plan will revolve around Christmastime and Spring Break...so we can buy AP's and get full benefit from them. Good Luck in your planning & let us know what you decide...and let us know when your Spring Break is!

It's going to be busy during spring break but you have a year to plan so you should be fine. Use Fastpass and have ADRs for the restaurants you want to try then have fun.

Re: Spring Decision 2008
I voted WDW for a few reasons:
1- We did spring break in '05 and it wasn't nearly as crazy as we thought it was going to be. We'll do spring break again before we'll do Christmas again. If you go knowing the crowds will be heavy and just go with the flow, it's really not that bad! 2- Ya gotta try WDW. Then you'll understand, first hand, all the MB craziness and enthusiasm and excitement and obsession . . . 3- Um, 'cuz I've never been to DL so I have no idea what it's like. ![]()

Re: Spring Decision 2008
As a WDW vetern I did Disneyland last year for the first time in about 30 years. It was great exploring new parks and comparing and contrasting the two. I'm really glad that I've had the oppurtunity to do both in the same year.
I think you should go to WDW. It's a totally different experience and you won't always be wondering what it is like. |
