POP Century or my timeshare?

OK guys...I need your opinion.

I will be going to WDW from 8/23-9/2. 8/23-8/26 we had originally planned to stay at my timeshare (Vistana Resort or Vistana Villages) so we can relax and enjoy the pools and the resort activities (they have planned activities for the kids each day...Nathaniel will love it).

But then I was thinking about it....

When we stay off site, we will have to pay for food every day. And we go out to dinner every night when we are on vacation. Sometimes it's a reasonable place like Pizza Uno, and sometimes it's a nice place...more $$!

My timeshare is free...totally available with no fees. POP Century will be $82 per night for 3 nights, $246 (plus tax). HOWEVER, that includes FREE DINING for all of us!

What would you do? Stay at POP for $82 a night to get the FREE DINING, or stay at my timeshare where I will have to pay OOP for our meals the first 3 days?

I spoke to DH about it and he said POP since we will DEFINITELY eat $82 worth of food each day (quick breakie, lunch and nice dinner AND snacks). PLUS he won't have to repack the car again to change resorts!!!

I was thinking of getting the ressie at Vistana anyway, this way we could leave WDW property and spend the afternoon at the pools at Vistana. We don't necessarily have to sleep there...but if we have the room, we can use all the facilities.

So.....what would YOU do???

Re: POP Century or my timeshare?

I agree with your DH. Stay at pop...$82 is less than food for four for one day.

Re: POP Century or my timeshare?

That is a hard choice. I would say to stay at POP, but then again, I have timeshare also, and a couple of our places are in Orlando. And the last 3 years that we have gone, and when we go this May, we are staying at our timeshare, just because the room itself is so much bigger and luxurious. We have 3 bedrooms, a living room, kitchen, laundry, etc... so, it just makes more sense for us to stay there for free, rather than staying in a room with just 2 beds. But, we are going to be paying for meals, so we will make up the cost there. It really depends on your personal choice, I guess. =)

Thanks for the opinion. Actually we would be staying in a large 1 bedroom villa at Vistana...gorgeous! A lot more room than POP. But I was thinking of getting the ressie anyway. We can split our time between both places. It's not like anything is coming out of my pocket for the timeshare...if we don't use it, we lose it.

Re: POP Century or my timeshare?

I completely agree, when I am away in Walt Disney World, I like to go out to eat wherever I want to also, and not worry about the cost of it. I'm not a bigger budgeter when I am on vacation...my theory is spend, spend, spend!! ha! (My husband just loves that part of me....hahaha)

Then you just answered you own question....food. If it were about room size and not food budget, then I would say stay at your timeshare. Since it's more about eating whatever the heck you want, definately go to pop...you really can't beat free dining. I really think you should go to pop.

Re: POP Century or my timeshare?

When did the free dining pop up? If you are getting free dining for free, the cost of two adults alone is $76, add in one child under 10 and that's $88 a day which wipes out the cost of the room. If you have a child over 10, the three of you would cost $114. I'd stay at the Pop for that kind of math.

I got it for free while I was there in December. It was called the Bounceback Program. If you booked your 2007 trip BEFORE you checked out in December, you automatically got free dining if you check in between 8/5-9/29. So obviously we jumped on it!

She go the bounce back deal that was being offered in december, so she hs that free dining locked in already. Public discount for that hasn't be offered yet.

I agree with you of course...the math don't lie.
