Icon5 Have any of you mailed NON perishable items for your trip?

I was looking at Goodings ,because I know they deliver to your room. I am planning to go with Mouse Express so I thought delivery was a great idea until i saw juice boxes are 5.00 for a 10pk!

Not to be cheap but i can get 3 10 pks for that much here. I then thought that included the delivery and thats another20$

Have you guys just made up your own package at home and mailed it ahead of time to get there when you arrive . i figure if it does not have to be in the fridge whats the difference. Maybe I need to get coupon clipping! if I shop there!

I can always get milk delivered but 5$ for 10 juice boxes I think not!

Any ideas??

Try gardengrocer.com. I used them this past october. their prices are fair and their delivery charge is only $10...flat fee. That's cheaper than mailing the package.

At gardengrocer.com 8 ct of juicy juice is $2.99. That's not too bad, and probably cheaper than buying beverages in the parks or resorts. You can get water bottles, too. We are going to try them out in May. I have read really good things about them.

Re: Have any of you mailed NON perishable items for your trip?

When we went in Sept we mailed a package ahead of time, it had laundry detergent, juice boxes, oatmeal packets, and snacks for the park. The package cost me almost $45 to mail, but I was so glad that I shipped it. We had a rental car but when we went shopping for what we needed to have in the room (I think we went to Goodings, it was over by Downtown Disney area) I found them to be outrageously expensive!!!!! Juice boxes tend to be heavy though so it could get costly, I am sure taht is why mine was so expensive! Have you considered the packets of Crystal Light or ice teas that you pour into a bottle of water, you could do something like that and maybe purchase insulated cups and that would save you lots of $$$$ to spend on other stuff. I think that is what we are going to do this time. Just a quick suggestion!

If you are staying off-site, or at least renting a car, you should consider going to one of the Wal-Marts near SeaWorld. They had everything we could possibly think of, and more.

Re: Have any of you mailed NON perishable items for your trip?

When we went last March, we had a rental car. So, we drove down to the Wal-Mart, and picked up everything we would need. And it was cheap there also! you should consider that also, as long as you have a rental car. =)

Just letting you know we used gardengrocer.com and they were great. We arrived Christmas Day and my groceries were already there when I checked in, it was wonderful. I plan on using them this summer, even though we will have a rental car. I don't want to spend an hour or two of my time dealing with the kids in a store, it's my vacation too .

Re: Have any of you mailed NON perishable items for your trip?

I agree I was tryin to avoid that shopping on vacation for groceries.
I think what i will do just have them take care of it for me. I wonder how a grocery store stays in business with prices like theres at Goodings!

Re: Have any of you mailed NON perishable items for your trip?

We shipped a pretty good size box to CSR and to POP. Both arrived a day before we did. CSR delivered it to our room. I packed nonperishables as well as items we just didn't want to pack like ponchos, plasticware and paper plates, etc. Stuff we figured we wouldn't bring back with us. It was great for us!! I'm cheap . . . for several months before each trip, I bought things I knew we wanted to have down there when I saw them on sale up here. I feel like we saved quite a bit of money. Good luck with your decision!

Re: Have any of you mailed NON perishable items for your trip?

I heard from a friend who lives in Orlando and is from the US that Goodings in the DTD area is more expensive because of the high amount of British tourists it has staying in and around that area and of course the prices are still alot cheaper than we pay here in England. He recommended a place called 'Albertsons' ( which we never went to) and of course like every good Brit we just adore Wal Mart for our room provisions.

Re: Have any of you mailed NON perishable items for your trip?

I think that it all depends on if you drive or fly.. When we drive I load a cooler into the back of the truck. If we fly I like to pack a suitcase full of snacks and juice boxes. I fill one sink up with ice and use the other for everyday use. This tends to work for us..

Re: Have any of you mailed NON perishable items for your trip?

I looked at the prices for things even at Gardengrocer and I can get it still cheaper here by quit a bit actually. i could fill a box and send it and I think it will still be less then having it delivered there. I think I will ship it now and if need be do Gardengrocerfor cold items only.

Re: Have any of you mailed NON perishable items for your trip?

I looked at a couple of things on GardenGrocer.com and found it to be a tad bit expensive in comparison to prices I'm used to. We don't have a Wal-Mart in close proximity to our home. And, my husband loves to bargain shop. Target is his favorite store. Therefore, it will be a bonus for his vacation to stop over at Wal-Mart and shop away!

Can you still do that as far as the airlines are concerned? I mean, is it okay to pack food items and liquids in a suitcase and check it? I am so out of the loop when it comes to what is allowed on planes these days. If I can do that, maybe I will pack cereals and snack and just get a few dairy products delivered.
