Icon10 Need a bit of info re: POR

We have definitely decided to change our plans to stay @ POFQ & now will be @ POR. I was wondering if someone could tell me if the Magnolia Terrace building is a totally non-smoking room. We seem to like how this one looks best. Is it in a good location for getting to to foodcourt & bus stop?
Also can you tell me what exactly they mean by "quiet pool"? Are kids welcome to swim there, or are they more for adults?

I don't know about the smoking rooms, but do know that quiet pool only means it's not the "main" pool area.

Re: Need a bit of info re: POR

We've stayed at the Magnola Terrace on our last 4 trips there and love it. We never had a problem with smokers. Dana's right about the pool. It's called the quiet pool because there is no slid or anything extra other than just a nice pool. Also nice about Magnola Terrace is the bus stop is right in back of the building. You're going to like it.

Great! Thanks for the info, I hope we actually get our building of choice. A little fairy dust maybe?
If anyone knows for sure which builings ARE non-smoking & smoking, the info is appreciated.

Re: Need a bit of info re: POR

Hi Nancy,

I've stayed at Magnolia Terrace 3 times and never had a problem with smoking/non-smoking rooms. I believe Oak Manor is a building that used to be smoking, but I am not sure if that is still the case. That is the building where I had a smoky room though, so you might want to stay away from that one.

Magnolia Terrace is in a great location, pretty central to everything and there is a bus stop right behind the building which is great.

Re: Need a bit of info re: POR

Karen, thanks that's exactly the kind of thing that I was worried about. We just really liked the look of Magnolia Terrace in particular, so I'm glad about what your experience has been.
Just to clarify, it was Oak Manor that you had the smoky room, right?

Re: Need a bit of info re: POR

We have stayed there many time. Think you will enjoy it. I like the quiet pools. You have more room, less crowded and if necessary you can do laundry while swimming because the laundry mat is connected to each of the quiet pools. Our kids even enjoyed the quiet pools more. They could splash around more without bumping into others.

Re: Need a bit of info re: POR

Thanks all! I can't tell you how much this has helped. We were really on the fence about which resort (POFQ or POR) to stay at, & now I'm feeling pretty confident that we'll like POR.
I still have one question though. What is the water slide like @ POR? I can't find any pictures. Someone said it was "neat" but my DS wants a description.

Kids are definitely welcome at the quiet pools... in fact,. kids are welcome pretty much everywhere at WDW. At a quiet pool, they just have to be alittle reserved... like no yelling "CANNONBALL" when they jump off the edge!

Re: Need a bit of info re: POR

Nancy, here's a link to many photos of the resort.
The slide winds through greenery. It's not a straight slide, kind of hidden away, really fun.

Port Orleans Riverside - Google Image Search

Oh, in case it hasn't been mentioned, you can also use the pool at the French Quarter.

We stayed in a room at Oak Manor, and it was definitely non smoking. No smoky smell at all. We also had a quiet pool outside our room, and there was never anybody in it besides us!! It was heavenly. :)

Re: Need a bit of info re: POR

Nancy, I did not experience the slide at POR myself by my cousins (ages 13 and 9) went down it several times and LOVED it. It is kind of windy and starts up in this rustic wooden structure, going along with the "Ol Man Island" theme. Not as flashy as the dragon/serpent slide at POFQ but just as fun, I think!

Re: Need a bit of info re: POR

My boys (10 & 8) loved the pool at POR. The slide and all the waterfalls. Lots of fun to swim around and under the falling water.
It's really a great place to relax for adults too! Just sitting around the hot tub with nice drink was great. The Island is like a hide away.
We stayed in Arcadia(spelling?) House in a non-smoking room and we didn't have to walk very far to the main pool or the bus stop.
