Upgrades
Does anyone have any experience getting upgraded to concierge or a better room? If so, did you ask for it or was it automatic? What time of year was it? What resort?
We have 2 garden rooms at the Poly in September. I heard that upgrades at the Poly are unheard of. Anyone ever been so lucky? |

Upgrades are really random. The slower the time of the year, the greater the chance of getting one. September is one of the better times to get one unless you are going during the holiday weekend or during the Night of Joy weekend. I have been upgraded several times. It has happened twice without me aksing for it. Once at Animal Kingdom and once at the Contemporary. I have been upgraded at the Boardwalk, Contemporary, Animal Kingdom and the Grand Floridian by asking for it. The correct way to ask for it is, "I would like to inquire about possibly upgrading my room." Be enthusiastic about it. The happier and more friendly you come across to the CM, the better your chances of getting the upgrade for free. Availability and the attitude/experience of the CM are the two most important things. Know how much the cost difference is supposed to be. If the upgrade is supposed to be 150 dollars a night and they offer it to you for 50, it may be worth it. If they tell you full price, ask politely if there is anything they can possibly do to work something out with you.

I've been upgraded all but once at AKL without asking for it. The one time it wasn't offered, we went to the room, and the view wasn't as good as previous rooms, so I just called the Manager and asked if anything was available a little closer to the animals. Without hesitation, a very courteous CM offered a different room. One of the MANY reasons I LOVE AKL.

We were upgraded at WL w/o asking for it. That's a great surprise! For this trip when checking in at the Contemp (we have a standard room) I'm going to ask what the cost (to make it seem like I'm willing to pay for it
 )would be to upgrade and we'll see what happens. We're going at a busy time, so I'm not really counting on an upgrade - but you never know.

While staying at the Contemporarywe were upgraded from a standard to a MK view. This happened twice. We did not ask either time. Also at the WL we were upgraded from a standard view to a courtyard view. Again..we did not ask for it.
We have stayed at many different WDW resorts from value to deluxe. These are the only times it has happened to us. I have been tempted to ask, but always chicken out! |

I am hoping to get one on our upcoming trip. We originally had a ressie at CBR for a preferred room but with a new discount for the Fun option, we lost preferred and now have standard. We'll see what happens.
