WL or Contemporary

With the "anticipated" free dining for my Aug/Sept trip, I want to use my saved $ and upgrade our 4-night stay from Pop. There is only a small difference ($176 total) between the Contemporary and WL. While the Contemporary has never really caught my fancy, I would love the chance to stay on the Monorail. We stayed at WL and LOVED it. It is my favorite resort, as many of you will agree.

Please give me your opinions. I will go with the audience on this decision!

Re: WL or Contemporary

My Mom stayed at the Contemporary when she and my Dad were first married (around 1980 I think) and said it was pretty dull. I've been inside a few times and thought it was boring. It just strikes me as a normal hotel instead of the clever Disney themes you normally see. I'm a lover of WL though so that may skew my opinion! :)

Re: WL or Contemporary

I've never stayed at the WL but it looks awsome. We just stayed at the Contemporay last year and the rooms were beautiful, very luxurious kinda feel. Being on the monorail and having restaurants like California Grill and Chef Mickeys right there makes the CR one of my favorites. Since you've already done WL try something new!

I think this is the direction I am leaning this morning, and we do have a dinner ADR at Chef Mickey's already. But, I will continue to take opinions! I will add that my kids also loved WL.... and we were there when the pool was being renovated.

Re: WL or Contemporary

The pool is my least fave thing about WL. It's just too small for the size of the resort. And, since it's the only pool, it's always busy. I got spoiled at CBR's private pools before my first and only visit to WL I guess. :)

Re: WL or Contemporary

The new rooms at the Contemporary are awesome. Would you be staying in the tower or the south garden wing? I did like WL, but, the Contemporary is my favorite because of the super ease of falling out of bed into Chef Mickey's, then rolling over onto the monorail. Also, the views from the tower are magnificent. Lake side gives you beautiful sunrises and the MK side gives you a wonderful view of MK and the kids just love watching the castle change colors and watching fireworks on the nights we aren't at that park.

Re: WL or Contemporary

We've been going through this debate also at my house. We have ressies for the Contemporary but I keep second guessing about the WL! I've stayed in the Contemporary and I love the closeness of MK, the Monorail, Chef Mickey's, and the Concourse Steakhouse is one of my favs (and did I hear it was closing? NOOOOOO). DH has never been to WDW, so he is relying on my opinion and I want him to love WDW so I am trying to find the best fit!

Re: WL or Contemporary

We loved the WL. The theme was so special. You could hardly tell you were in Flordia. When you walt into the lobby you can't help but gasp as you look up. It's really beautiful.

Re: WL or Contemporary

CR. Hands down. For the convenience of walking over to the MK to the great restaurants and also being on the mono line to the TTR and Epcot. Plus the people who work there are very nice and were very nice to my kids. Mousekeeping was very good. However, the WL is a drop dead gorgeous hotel too with lots of plusses in its favor. My daughter and I are equestrians (as was my son until he fell off which ended his short lived career in the saddle) and it's a very easy boat ride over to Fort Wilderness to get the bus to the barn. They also have water sports but at the Contemporary you can parasail!!! Great views, up there.

Re: WL or Contemporary

I have always admired the CR, the monorail going through the resort is just too cool. I agree, since you stayed at the WL why not try the CR. It has a lot to offer, and the new rooms look incredible.

Since you have already stayed at WL, try out the CR this time. You can't beat the price!

Re: WL or Contemporary

I see you've already chosen. With a difference of less than $200, especially if you're in the tower and not the wing, there is no other choice. Location is king, and Contemporary has location like no other WDW resort. And the rooms are some of the biggest in all of WDW.
We've done both Contemporary and WL twice. Both are fine choices, but Contemporary is a finer choice.

Re: WL or Contemporary

We have stayed at both. WL once and CR 3 times. They both have great qualities. But for me the convience of being on the monorail line gives the CR just a little bit of an edge. It is soooo easy to go to the MK, you have great dinning options at the Poly and GF. I loved the WL we were upgraded to a courtyard view and it was outstanding! Sure the theme is not so great at the CR, but you can look out on your balcony and see and hear the MK. You can also see the fireworks. I would choose the CR!

Re: WL or Contemporary

I would choose Contemporary tower. That's were we were going to stay last time but it was sold out. It's been my dream resort for a long time but never seems to work out. I had to settle for the Poly........ it was great.
