First day in WDW...what to do??

I am wondering if I made a mistake by getting 5 day hopper plus passes for our visit in August. With our three young ones, how do I tell them we aren't going to the MK the first day? We arrive at MCO around two-ish. I figure by the time we get to the WL it will be late in the afternoon, so we planned to just grab a bite and enjoy DD or Boardwalk. We are staying eight days and plan on going to Sea World as well. I am just wondering if I should have gotten Length of Stay passes and bite the bullet. Too much wasted money????

I don't think you should worry about your decision. By the time you get in and settled into the resort, it would be a wasted ticket/day at a park! You can still get the disney spirit at DTD. Or, take a bus to the MK, hop on the monorail and take a ride around the loop!! That works for us!! You get to see the castle and Main Street, yet you don't have to waste a ticket for less than half a day!! (we've just gone up to eat at chef mickeys before, and to please my son, we rode the monorail a couple times, then headed home. He was happy about that!!) I think your plans sound fine for the first day!!

Hi Arielbelle,

I agree with Goofygal. We have arrived late in the day and we made a point to go swimming then eat. One year we did go into the park and we were so tired that it was hard to catch up on rest. So now, we take it easy, get rest and then head to MK the next day.

Thanks for the reassurance! I know they will be waiting a long time and to finally get there and say..."Nope, tomorrow", may be heartbreaking. But, maybe if we head to DD and get them a spinner or something small that will suffice. I am sticking to my original plan.

Quartz7, last ime we were in DL, we arrived later in the day. Our hotel was within walking distance of the gates of MK, so we went for a quick fix(first time for my DD). Anyway, the parade was just starting, and all the characters came right up to her and gave her hugs and kisses as they were walking by. I stood there and cried. What a way to start a vacation!

Don't worry about it! Your kids will be so excited that they are at DISNEY WORLD!!!!

They will love the resort...and your kids will go crazy when they see all the fun and antics at the Whispering Canyon Cafe! Not to mention the special campfire program at Ft Wilderness, which is only a short stroll, bus or boat ride away.

Don't forget Chef Mickey's would be a great way to spend the evening. Plus, the kids will get to see Mickey! And the monrail!

Yes, trish, thanks. I tend to over think things sometimes. I will be excited we are at Disney World, I can only imagine how they will be. But, I suppose sometimes simple tings like hanging out at the pool will excite little ones.

I did make PS at Whispering Canyon for the night we arrive. I didn't want to plan too much for that evening in case our flight is delayed.;)

Hey ArielBell, I have the same problem here. Staying 7 nights with 5-day hoppers, and to top it off our flight changed and we'll be at WDW much earlier and staying much later. I think there is so much to do in that area that 5-day hoppers are plenty and we could always ad on to them once we are there or get a 1 day 1 park ticket.
Have fun !!!!!!!!!!!!

You will have a great time! The Wilderness Lodge is my favorite resort. There is so much to do...you will be glad that you are not wasting the money for a day at the parks.

Enjoy your stay! And, don't miss the hidden fireplaces!

Don't forget that the park hopper passes give you "plus" features so that the first day might be a half day but that could be perfect for a water park in August.
