Major Changes Coming to Walt Disney World Reservations System

Please note the following information is UNofficial and
has not been released by Walt Disney World.
All Ears "hears" it's coming!

Major changes are coming to the hotel reservation system beginning June 23, 2007. At that time, a new program will be instituted for all reservations beginning January 1, 2008. Pricing and rates for 2008 Walt Disney World hotels will become date specific.

Here's how it effects your budget: You will pay a nightly rate based on the season of that date. If you reserve night 1 under the value season and nights 2-5 under peak season, you will no longer be able to maintain the value season rate for the entire reservation.

Premium rates will now be applied for premium dates. A weekend may be considered premium so that friday and saturday night pricing may be higher than sunday - thursday, even if in the same "season".

In theory, you could be paying a different price for each night of your stay.

The upside, if there is one, is that you no longer have to split reservations and recheck into your hotel.

No word on how this may effect Annual Passholder rates.

When making room only reservations for 2008 you must specifically ask for the rate for each night otherwise you will just be given a total price for your stay. Package pricing will not be broken down by day.

I'm a little confused! Are the chanes starting June 23rd 2007? Or Jan. 1st 2008? Or.................do they mean the "official" announcement will be on the 23rd of June?

The way I understand it is that starting on June 23, 2007, any reservations that are made for January 1, 2008 or later will adopt these changes.

This is pretty standard stuff, maybe new to Disney, but at any chain hotel, that's what you get.

Hmmm. I kinda liked the "if you start in one season, you pay that price for your whole trip"...it was very unique to Disney.

Oh well! This is nothing abnormal, I guess. And I'm a diehard off-season girl anyway, so no harm done.

This is how it used to be. I didn't find out until recently that they'd ever changed it to where your per night rate is based on your check in date. Depending on when you vacation will depend on whether this is worse for you than the current plan. For me, since my vacation begins in the value season and quickly changes to the regular season, this would be more expensive for me (if I were going in 2008). If you begin your vacation in the peak season, for example, and you then hit Labor Day and it's value season then you'll save money compared to how it's currently done. I think it all balances out for Disney in the end. Just like the current way, it is going to be bad for someone and good for another because those checking in (2007) during the peak season are paying peak season price for their entire stay even if their vacation is partly regular or value season.

This actually would have worked to my advantage on my last trip. The 1st 3 nights were peak season, but then the last 7 were regular. We had to check out and check back in and we had park tickets on one key and room tickets and dining on other. Very confusing!
