im about 45 days until i go and stay at the boardwalk inn in a standard room wanted a view looking over the lake towards epoct,is it to early to call and ask for it or should i wait till we get therehas anyone done this.....

If you call and ask for an upgrade you will have to pay for it. The only upgrades we've ever gotten have been given to us w/o asking. Good luck!

It's certainly a gamble, but I would wait till you get there and see if they would upgrade you on the spot! With it being the "Year Of A Million Dreams", you just may get lucky!!

I, too, would wait. You can politely ask at check in if there are any upgrades available, if they don't give it to you first!

I agree - it use to be pretty easy to get an upgrade... not so anymore.

Just ask politely when you check in - that's probably your best bet.

Look, I checked into the Yacht ON MY BIRTHDAY. I had booked a standard garden view room, but hoped that I'd be upgraded. I had to say, "it's my birthday, have you got something with a better view than the parking lot?"
My "upgrade"? Second floor overlooking the quiet pool. I was hoping at least for lake view if not a full upgrade to concierge. If you want to guarantee a water view, you're going to have to book a water view, and pay for it, in my experience.

Depends if you want to be overlooking the boardwalk and Crescent Lake or you want a parking lot/garden view. As far as being able to tell you room numbers, you'll be arriving 6 weeks or more before I do, so I'm no help.

You can always ask if there are any upgrades available when you get there. I have received a free upgrade almost every trip without asking. It all depends on what is available when you check in and how busy the resort is. It's harder to do when it's crowded.

My philosophy is..if you're heart is set on a certain view..just book it. There are no guarantees. On our honeymoon we sort of got an upgrade at AKL. We booked a standard view (limited funds..but we'd rather look out at the parking lot than not be at AKL) anyway..we got a somewhat Savannah view..If I had paid for it I would have been VERY cranky..but it was nicer than the parking lot that's for sure!

The day I called in to make my final payment on my package, I asked if I could request a certain area of the hotel (I'm staying at Port Orleans Riverside) I was told "Sure, but there is no guarantee" I just got my mailed confirmation, and I notice it says "Guest Request Magnolia Bend-NO GUAR" But, since it's now right on my reservation, I'm hoping it will help me when I check in?

Right this minute, I'm happy for every extra penny I'm spending for concierge.
Without them, I wouldn't have been able to book an Illuminations cruise, get into Chef Mickey's on a Friday night before the Halloween party, or have them looking for a specific time to open up at le Cellier.
And sadly, because I've already booked into concierge, there really isn't much that i could be upraded to anyway.

We stayed at the villas (03/07) and overlooked the walk and lake. It was nice. Worn a bit, but nice I do not know how the other rooms fare.

Are there any fireworks that you could see from your Boardwalk room???
