Re: Mousekeeping Tips is this enough?
Thanks for all the help. I think I am going to do the $5/day. Seems like everyone agrees that is a good amount.
I read somewhere...DIS maybe?...that not all Mousekeepers can do the towel animals and that they actually have to make them on their own time. True? Maybe? I don't know. Maybe this explains why some get 'em and some don't. And some just get extra water glasses...lol.

Re: Mousekeeping Tips is this enough?
There's no guarantee that you'll get a towel animal no matter how much you tip. So don't be disappointed if you don't get any. The mousekeepers do make the animals on their own. Some know how to make them and others don't. I've heard that at Pop they sometimes have a towel animal display and it seems like those that stay in the value resorts have mousekeepers more apt to make towel animals.

Re: Mousekeeping Tips is this enough?
Sounds generous/appropriate to me! I have budgeted $3/day for DH and myself (no kids). I think my Dad (big tipper) normally left $6-$7 a day for 4 of us (2 adults, 2 kids) in the 1990's.

Re: Mousekeeping Tips is this enough?
I must be a cheapie too...I think we did $20 at the end of a week with 3 people. But we only got towel animals one day and were very neat, the worst she had to do was make the beds and take out the trash with dirty diapers everyday!

Re: Mousekeeping Tips is this enough?
anyway we can find out if it is indeed pooled? I am sure even if it isn't, it somehow works out semi-fairly. if some people tipped at the end of the trip, not everyone checks out on the same day. chances are good that at some point all the mousekeepers would be on the beneficial end of the "end of stay" tipper.
now, from someone in the service industry - I would hate knowing that someone else was getting my tip for what i had done all week. or thinking that i wasn't doing a good job, and i didnt' get anything. so, i'm still gonna tip daily -unless i hear that it is pooled. I'm kinda surprised disney doesn't do something like cruises do, with the envelopes and suggested tip amounts. at least, the cruises i did in the 90's did that.

Re: Mousekeeping Tips is this enough?
At the risk of sounding cheap, since when has it become necessary to tip EVERYBODY for doing their job?
How about the castmember sweating their buns off so we can have photo op? The ferry boat captain? The CM that takes your order at the counter service? Nobody tips me, and I'm guessing the same holds true for most of us. Where do you draw the line? (I know SOME jobs tips are the main source of money but FL is one of the higher minimum wage states and nobody is working for $2 an hour plus tips there.) IMHO, tipping should be a reward for extra special service. If you feel you get service that is worth it, tip by all means. That's what I do.

Re: Mousekeeping Tips is this enough?
We tip them every day because depending on who is working housekeeping for that particular day. Would hate to see one person get all the tips when they only started their shift that day and M-F person get nothing.

Re: Mousekeeping Tips is this enough?
I usually tip at the end of the trip wherever I go. When I travel alone for work I leave $5 if it is only one night. If it is a gew I leave $2 or $3 per day.
When I travel with my GF we never use the maid service, so with here we dont tip at all. We are not messy since it is just the two of us. It was funny last time in Disney the maid came up to us during our stay and thanked us (im sure she would get in trouble for this) becasue she said she has a set amount of rooms to do each day and skipping ours was helpfull, i guess it worked out since we did not hav here clean our room it may have lightended her load. Maybe she got a little break or something. I remember when i worked on a cruise ship the tips would be pooled at the end of the stay. If tips were left inbetween the maids usually just kept them without pooling. I would be curious to see how they do it in Disney. This time when I head down for 8 days I think my freind and i will use the service, and tip $25 and leave it at the end. Especially since i have never seen the towel animals, anybody have any pics?

Re: Mousekeeping Tips is this enough?
We leave a $5 bill each day, adn then extra if they took good care of us. We have never had a towel animal, but they have arranged the kids' toys in a cute display on the beds or in the window... sometimes along.t the sink area.
We also leave the $$$ on the note pad with a big THANK YOU and a little smiley face.

Re: Mousekeeping Tips is this enough?
i'm an end-o-trip tipper....call me oblivious but it never occurred to me to tip everyday. and actually, if memory serves me correctly here, i don't think i've ever seen the little card that's left for the tipping until my last day...probably the reason i've always been an end-o-trip tipper
