Fort Wilderness Bus Service?

Hi All,
This summer my family along with another family that are our dear friends had a "Magical Gathering" at WDW. We stayed 9 days at the Port Orleans Riverside. It was our kids first time at WDW and me and my wife's second trip (we went to WDW for our honeymoon 17 years ago).

Anyway, we all had a great time. My only complaint was the bus service. No matter what day or what park, by park closing time the Port Orleans Riverside line to load the buses was the LONGEST line around ...curving all over the place...with it taking 45 minutes to over an hour to get on a bus to go back to POR.

I was looking at us going back next summer and staying in a cabin at Fort Wilderness.

My questions are:
Is the bus service to Fort Wilderness better than POR?
Is the FW line waiting for buses at park closing as long as POR?
Does the boat ride take a LONG time?

Thanks for the info!

Latter,
Gaylan

Re: Fort Wilderness Bus Service?

I just want to say that this June we ate at Trails End Buffet at Fort Wilderness. We were unable to use the boat launch due to a HORRIFIC storm. We used a bus from Wilderness Lodge. We then had to use the "internal color coded bus system" that they use at Fort Wilderness... they had plenty of those buses running.

fort wilderness, great resort........HUGE resort. there are lots of buses, but they make many stops, and it sometimes gets confusing (or at least it did for me, finding the right bus to take to my section of the resort to get back to my room/trailer or find the correct bus to take to the resort's general store to get some eats for the fridge).

Re: Fort Wilderness Bus Service?

I don't have any experience with the buses at FW, but wanted to say that you experience with the buses at POR is not the normal there. I stayed at POFQ (they share with POR) and never had an issue with transportation at all. Maybe it was just bad luck with timing for you?? Not sure, but just didn't want you to think that it's always like that. Maybe try POFQ next time. It picks up first and drops off first for all parks.

I have to say that I think the bus system works very well. You do have to wait occasionally, but it usually runs very smoothly.

The boat ride is great, takes about 20 mins. You can get some great pics though.

We just spent a couple of days at Port Orleans French Quarter and had very good luck with the buses. However, our last night at Magic Kingdom (we were staying at Boardwalk by this point) I noticed the bus line for Port Orleans Riverside was HUGE, it was actually 2 bus stops chained together and it was still pouring out in the middle of the area. There was a much shorter line for Port Orleans French Quarter, one bus stop and it all seemed to be in the queue.

I am so glad that you didn't have any issues at POFQ. I am really looking forward to hearing about your take on that resort. I would think that riverside, when not sharing with FQ would take forever..that place is gigantic and popular.

Re: Fort Wilderness Bus Service?

The boat is pretty fast, and you can use it for when you go to MK and Epcot as you can take it to MK and then monorail to EPCOT!!!

When we stayed there in '05 the boat went to FW last so you don't have to go to the other resorts you go straight to the Magic Kingdom
