Fishing in Disney?

I can't remember where I heard about fishing in Disney, maybe one of the vacation videos or even a special on the travel channel.

Is this true? If so which resort offers this and how much does it cost for 2 people to go out?

Do you rent a boat for yourself or does a CM take you out?

Someone told me you can drop a line at POR in a well stocked fishing hole, i was not sure if that was the only fishing in disney.

Last, has anybody done this and is it worth it?

Thank you.

Re: Fishing in Disney?

I believe there are several locations that you can fish.

One I know of is at FW. They have a place where you can rent fishing gear and fish in the small canals there. You can also charter and excursion on Bay Lake with a guide and fish for several hours.

Some people on here have done it, so I think they will be able to offer more advice.

Re: Fishing in Disney?

Absolutely true!!! I've seen people fishing at Dixie Landings, but never seen it at any of the other resorts. I also know there are full excursions in Bay Lake and Seven Seas.
Here's a linky for more info!

Re: Fishing in Disney?

We once ran into a guy at a Cracker Barrel on our way home from WDW-who had on a WDW shirt. I started up a conversation with him and he told me he runs fishing trips from the Contemporary. He was a super nice guy, I never would have started a conversation with him, if it weren't for his shirt.
So, to make a short story long ,they do run trips from the CR, but I have no clue how to tell you to book it. Maybe try the front desk of your resort when you get there, or call the reservations number, and they can let you know what is available. Have fun!!

I think Miss Disney knows a whole lot about that. Just wait until she sees this thread. She'll put her 2 cents in :

Re: Fishing in Disney?

My DH did a fishing excursion during our last trip. It was $250 for three hours with a captain. He handed the trolling motor over to DH and let him navigate where he wanted to go. After 2 hrs the captain told DH that he had never had someone catch that many fish on an excursion and had never had such a great time so they decided to come in and only charged for 1 and a half hours. We were staying at the Carribbean Beach Resort and it was through there. They also allow fishing from shore there during certain hours. This is a deal breaker for DH now. He will only agree to a WDW trip if we stay at CBR and he can do an excursion.

Yay!!! My two cents!!!

Yes, we are fisherpeople, and we have been fishing, and we LOVED it! You can call 407-WDW-BASS and make a reservation. They can pick you up at a number of spots. We like to be picked up at WL, because it gives us an excuse to go through that cool lobby!

Here's the deal --

You charter a boat for about two hours (you can also arrange to go out longer. They often can even let you make up your mind about adding more time the day you are fishin!), and a Disney fishing CM will drive to your pick-up spot in a boat that is equipped with fishing gear and bait, as well as drinks. You can arrange for snacks as well, I believe.

They will take you all around Seven Seas Lagoon, as well as back up into the deserted areas behind the Contemporary.

Then they will drive you at the end of your excursion over to FW, where you pay your bill. Don't forget to tip the CM, cash is probably preferred. And then they drop you off at your pick-up spot!

I know that all the fishing CMs are probably great, but I can tell you that if you are lucky enough to get a CM named Carrie, you will be very lucky indeed! She was terrific! We caught a ton of fish, got great pics with cool WDW buildings in teh background, and had a terrific time!

Re: Fishing in Disney?

I have fished the Bay lake and Seven Seas Lagoon several times. Worth every penny to me each time, wether we caught a bunch of fish or not. But most times we were busy catching fish, and some of descent size, 5lbs +. And to be in front of the castle or the different hotels. WOW!! Very fun.
You can also fish downtown disney and a few other areas around disney property. We have only fished the main lakes.

Re: Fishing in Disney?

I did this and I have to say I loved it. Went out on Seven Seas Lagoon. Actually I hate fishing, finding it to be boring, but I love catching.
See at Disney you don't go fishing you go catching and that is what I like!
We went out for 2 hours and caught over 12 fish (we stopped counting as it was becoming a pain). It was just my BIL and I so it was a bit pricy for only 2 of us but I will do it again before I die!

Re: Fishing in Disney?

We just came back from our trip in which we did the Fishing Excursion. Check out my TR for any photos. They picked us up around 6:45 am and we stayed out until about 9am There were 5 of us and we caught 23 fish!!! I believe our cost was $225.

I believe they will pick you up from any resort that has a marina.

But if it's catch and release, are you sure you didn't catch one or more of the fish twice?

I took pictures of each fish. Not so much to make sure it wasn't the same fish (which it wasn;t) but as to not to have any fish tales when we got home as to whos was the biggest, who caught the most. etc.
