Fort Wilderness Cabins

My husband and I would like to take our 4 kids to Disney this Summer, but ....money, money, money. With 4 kids, we are looking at $10k at any of the resorts big enough for all 6 of us. But I got a vacation package price of $6149 which is for the Wilderness cabins, airfare and hopper passes. Has anyone stayed there? I know we would not have the priviledge of room service. Can anyone recommend for or against the cabins or recommend something else. I'm new here (please help).

Sue,

This is a great site to help you with all your vacation planning.
If you have some time to hang around these boards and ask questions that price of 6149.00 that you have will surley go down.

Ask, ask, ask and keep asking every question you can think of. Everyone here is very kind and helpful.

We have a family of 5 and I could go on and on about different ways to save money, but don't want to confuse you or anything. If you have time read and ask away.

Good Luck!!!!

Welcome to DC! I've never personally stayed at the cabins but one of the members here PhantomBantam is a strong supporter of them. I haven't seen him around in awhile so I don't know if he will post or not. I think it would be a great place to stay and would go for it, after all you are WDW things will be great!~

suehunt,

Have you checked into the new fairy tale package that disney is offering. It will be available to the general public starting tomorrow you pay for 4 nights and get 3 free. This includes hotel stay and passes to all of the parks for 7 days and your only paying for 4. This might help you out money wise. Look into it. There are a couple of very informative post here regarding this package.

do you have to stay in the world?

I know this is like a dirty question with alot of people here. But I have the same Money, money, money, issues. I have 3 kids and a mother to bring giving us the grand total of 6 also. We decided to stay at the Holiday Inn family Suites. They have a room with 2 bedrooms and a pullout sofa bed. I got it for 99.00 a night. And another plus is that it has a full FREE hot breakfast buffet. Its located less than 5 minutes from the main gates.

Dont get me wrong I would always stay in the World if I had the budget to do so. I stayed both in and out . No matter what its Magical!

Or if staying in the world is top priority maybe you ca get 2 connecting rooms at a value resort. With all the great codes you could get 2 rooms for a great price!

Another great option are the hotels on Hotel Boulevard they are on property right across from DTD but are often a bit less than the disney resorts. I have stayed at the Lake Buena Vista Best Western twice and really liked it. The rooms are very spacious, much cheaper (if you ask for a disney view which is what we had last year you can see the fire works from your room), and all of the rooms have a balcony. Additionally when we were there last May they were just about done with remodeling the entire place. Also you won't miss out on too much of the disney magic, you are two seconds from DTD and they have a disney store in the lobby and Mickey Mouse is everywhere.

I have also read some posts here regarding the bus service to and from all of the disney parks from these hotels. I can tell you from experience that the LBVBW gives you a pass on check-in that allows you to use the Disney bus service and the buses come fairly often.

Have fun everyone. We're almost there!!:D

The WL has a deluxe room that sleeps 6. See if you can get that room with the Fairytale Vacation Package - stay 7 nights, pay for 4 nights!

Hi Sue,

My family and I are in the same boat but here's what we found. We booked a 7 night stay in the cabins at Fort Wilderness for the 1st week of August. It's my wife, myself, and our three kids ages 16,13,10. The package comes with 8-day, ultimate hopper passes for each of us and the trip costs just under $2400.00.

That's the best deal I've ever gotten at WDW. 2 years ago we stayed at the Villas at the Disney Institute for 4 days and it cost about the same $2400.00.

We've never stayed in Fort Wilderness and I can't tell you how excited we are. In fact, if anyone has stayed in the cabins before, I'd love to hear some feedback from you.

By the way, I booked this trip directly with Disney. No travel agents or other outside 3rd parties.

Good luck and have a great time.

Will

ps. How do you do those way kewl countdowns to your next trip? Sorry if that's redundant. It's my first post

saving $

Did you try to rent points from a DVC member? We did - and are paying a third of what we'd pay if we made rezzied through CR for a preferred view studio at BWV. The average rate is $10/point. For a family of 6, I think you could go with a 1 bedroom. One of the best things I ever did!!:p

First things first: Welcome to DC Suehunt and Gettysburgdad! I hope you find everything you need here at DC! Secondly, here's the link to get those cool countdowns: Countdown Just click the link and follow the easy instructions. And lastly, Yes I've stayed at the Wilderness Lodge Cabins about 5 years ago. It's my understanding that they just recently refurbished them to include a small porch for BBQing. There were 6 of us when we stayed there, and we all fit perfectly. There is a small kitchen, so you can save money by preparing breakfast or dinner yourself. There is a Murphy bed that comes down in the living room of the cabin. In the back is a door that leads to the master bedroom with bunkbeds on the side. The cabins were quite comfortable, and I would really recommend them to any family. You really feel like your out in the middle of nowhere though, Disney did a good job making a buffer zone around the camp ground! lol. There are bus stops that take you all over the place, and I think you can catch a ferry over to the MK. If you have anymore questions, dont hesitate to ask!
Joe:)

Love the cabins (long)

We stayed in the Fort Wilderness Cabins in March 2003. My mother-in-law, husband, daughter, and I all fit in the cabin with room to spare.

Our favorite things:
- Having the car right outside our door.
- Great deck off the side of our cabin to sit and relax on (also a great place to leave the stroller, etc.)
-Being able to barbeque and cook if we wanted to (we had breakfast at the cabin each morning)
-We never waited long for internal buses
-We loved the 15-20 minute boat ride every morning to the MK
-My two year old loved the petting zoo and other animals (there were peacocks everywhere)
-You feel very secluded and it is such a great break after spending the day in the busy parks
-Watching the electric light parade from the beach
-The nightly campfire (great fun!!!)

Our suggestions:
-Bring a flashlight, it is dark at night
-Bring bug spray
-We requested a room by the bus stop, so we didn't feel the need to rent a golf cart. But there are golf carts for rent that will help get you around if you do not like to wait for buses (I think you need to book these in advance)
-Stop at a grocery store outside the park. There is a little general store at FW, but the prices are really high.

We absolutely loved our stay there and would definitely stay there again!!!!!

Thanks so much Pudge. We can't wait. And your tips are awesome.

Tell me though,

<<-Watching the electric light parade from the beach>>

Can you really see the parade well?

Thanks again,

Will
