opinion - POP vs POR French Quarter
Just DH and I are going to DW in November.
Have reservations (visa discount pkg) great price of $1468. Was debating if we should upgrade to POR for $1860. It's been 11 years since we were at DW so really don't plan on spending much time at the resort, and DH does not swim, so upgraded pools will not be a concern.

Re: opinion - POP vs POR French Quarter
if you are not spending much time at the resort I would say do not up grade. I just got back from French Quarter and you defenitly want to chill out at this resort. The pool was awsome. It is a resort you would like to stay a day and absorb it in. I would vote stay put.

Re: opinion - POP vs POR French Quarter
thanks, that was my thoughts, but just wanted opinions of someone who has "been there"
maybe in a few years we can come back to "enjoy a resort"!

Re: opinion - POP vs POR French Quarter
Have stayed at both. Kids loved POP because of the theming and pools. However, we found it to be very crowded and a LARGE resort. Personally I would request a top floor room. We found the walls of POP to be very thin. We heard every toilet flush, shower, bath, kids running, things being dropped on the floor, ect. Did not experience this at POFQ, which is lovely, quiet, and smaller.

Re: opinion - POP vs POR French Quarter
We've only spent 1 night at Pop and 2 nights at FQ so I may not be a lot of help. We found Pop to be loud. We were near a pool and people were still screaming and yelling at midnight. There were also kids outside our door late at night runnig nad talking loud. POFQ was so quiet and peaceful and not at all crowded feeling. I would be happy to stay at FQ again but we would only stay at Pop if we had to for some reason.

We experienced the exact same thing. We had a young boy that was lost banging on our door around 1:00 AM.. yelling "MAMA" Rlander got up and talked loudly through the door... "GO AWAY KID". The kid took off running. Seriously though those room doors are very confusing.. they all look. Especially in the dark. |

If it's only a place to sleep - don't bother upgrading. But if you want to relax a little and have a few more comforts upgrade to the FQ. It's definitely the best of all the moderates. A beautiful little resort.

Re: opinion - POP vs POR French Quarter
I stayed at both and perfer POFQ. The entire experience is different.....POFQ was so relaxing, especially the hot tub after a long day of walking! It never seemed crowded at POFQ, even the bus stops were more peaceful! And the boat ride to DTD is great!
That said....if I wanted to save money I would go back to POP.

We love POR!!! It's great for adults -- hot tubs, poolside bar, Piano Bar Bob in the lobby, beautiful grounds...

Re: opinion - POP vs POR French Quarter
On our last trip we stayed our first night at POP to save $ because we were arriving late in the day, then transferred to POFQ the next morning. To me, there is no question that I would stay at POFQ or POR. We have 3 small children, and I still found POP to be much too loud & busy for me (& we were only there one night). The food court was very crowded. The noise from the pool & people/kids running around all night kept me up. IMHO, the decor and atmosphere at POFQ & POR is just so much more beautiful & classy. We are able to relax more & sleep better, which makes the entire vacation more enjoyable. We feel that the Mod's are definitely worth a little extra $ when we're already spending so much on the vacation.

Re: opinion - POP vs POR French Quarter
If you don't use the pool, then you aren't really gaining much by going to POFQ vs Pop. If it was my decision, I'd say go for it. The benefits would be the water slide and hot tub, extra space in the room and two sinks instead of one. POFQ doesn't have a sit down restaurant, but you are within walking distance of Boatwrights at POR. The logistics come down to, if it's just the two of you and you aren't going to make use of the pool stay at Pop. If the deal breaker is the restaurant, try to get into Riverside instead of FQ. But for a $400 savings, you could always put that money towards a Victoria and Alberts dinner with a La Nouba show!
