Just switched to Poly
Going in June. Was staying at Swan. Disney offered discount for military (40% resorts, and complimentary 5 day for member and $99 for family) and I switched. Going with husband and 4 year old son. Any suggestions on what to do afternoon and evening of day 1? we will be there 6 days and do not want to use our 5 day tickets on a portion of a day. Am thinking an afternoon at the pool and dinner?

Hi there! For our 1st day in July we feel the same way - don't want to use up a park hopper day. We decided to hang around the pool, explore the hotel, unpack, etc. For dinner I made a PS at Chef Mickey's at the Contemporary. I figured it will be fun to ride the monorail and my daughter will get to meet Mickey and friends the 1st night!!!

Pool and dinner sounds great. That's what we will be doing Saturday, we also don't want to waste a full days ticket on a half day at a park.

Congrats on the discounts, that really is a good deal for military members. You will love the Poly. I would suggest taking some time that first day to ride the monorail around to the other resorts on the monorail and walk around them. Also, take the monorail that goes to EPCOT, since it goes inside the park, you can get a good view and everyone gets excited. There is no cost, and it is a great way to see everything. Maybe you can do that after a nice swim, and then dinner at Chef Mickey's in the Contemporary is a great way to start off your vacation.
