Info on Coronado Springs

Hi DC devotees!!
(I have to say in the short time I have been on here, I have become truly addicted!!)

Any info or tips anyone can give me on the Coronado Springs?
We will be staying there next month. The only other on site we have been to is All Star Music, and we really liked it.

Any tips or recommendations are welcomed :)

Neen

neen all I can tell you is that the rooms are a little bigger. We stayed there one night because they had over booked all of the AS hotels, so they gave us a room there. from what we saw of it it was very nice. I am sure other people will have more to say.

We stayed at CS in August of 2001. Rooms were nice, I do not recall that they were much bigger than any other moderate resort. The pool is really cool, big water slide and a really nice kiddie area.
The one thing that was tough for us was that it is so spread out. If you have little ones bring the stroller to use in the resort. I remember it was about a 10 min walk from our room to the main pool. However their was a quiet pool right near our room.
They food was very good at the resort resturaunts.
We were happy with our stay there but I am not sure if we would stay there again. As far as moderates go we like Port Orleans much better.

It really depends on which area you are staying in! The have three price sections. I've forgotten the names now, but there's one of out door walkway hotells laid around very charming courtyards w/ foutains etc. This is the least expensive, and the FARTHEST from the main pool (although there is a quiet pool nearby)! They lie when they say you can walk there! It's ALL the way around that huge lake. There are two other sections (we didn't stay in them) that are more like villas. And closer to the pool! No rooms are located in the main building where you check in and where the gift shop and restaurants are. This place really gave me a jolt as I had always though a hotel was a singular word -- one building w/ rooms and everything in it! I definitely recommend checking out on the map where you will be and getting aclimated by that. The color scheme of the place is wonderful, you really feel like you're off in the tropics somwhere rather than just staying at a hotel at Disney. It's like a vacation during your vacation! :)

I stayed at Coronado for a business convention in March 2002.

Be prepared, because I think they are about to do some construction there to expand the convention space.

This is a fine resort, but bring your walking shoes, because it is spread out and you will walk a lot.

The rooms are nice & clean. The pool is great if you have kids, or even if you don't. Have fun!!!

ilvminnie...

Mayan Grille is alright. But it's prices are pretty steep even by Disney standards. But again, you would not be disappointed. :D

As far as what room to request, from the 2003 Passporter:
"The Casitas are the least interesting visualy, but are convenient to the convention center - in fact they house the only rooms that you can reach from El Centro without leaving the protection of a roof or overhang. The Ranchos are closest to the main pool, and farthest from El Centro. We recommend buildings 6B and 8A for view and proximity to the quiet pool. The Cabanas are convenient to El Centro."

It looks like an awesome place!!
Have fun!!!

Thank you all for all your insight and help.
We have only ever stayed at the ASM, and my friend
made this reservation for her family and mine.
DH and I are planning another trip already :) and I think we
are going to try the CBR. We are also planning yet another
trip ;) for next spring and I think we will try and do AKL or WL.

Being on this board makes me want to be in WDW all the time.
This board truly is the next best thing to being there.

Again thank you all

I would also like to say thanks in a "riding this thread's coat-tails" sort of way. We too are staying at this resort in December and appreciate everybody's comments.

I read somewhere to request a Cabana or a Casita room so you are closer to the food, buses, etc. Based on the resort map we probably will try to get one of those rooms.

Hello Neen,

We have stayed at CSR two years ago. We absoluetly loved it. It has a very laid back feeling even tho there are conventions going on. I felt bad for the suckers getting all dressed up for their meetings knowing that we are in WDW. The convention goers did not impact our stay except for one nite. It was a group of med students and they all ate in PM at the same time as us. It just happened like that, but other then that no problems.

The three price ranges are not for how far you are from the pool or El Centro. There are standard view/garden view, water view and Jr Suites. This is the only moderate that has the suites. We stayed in Cabanas and were steps from the Dig Site(pool) and just across a bridge from El Centro. I would recommend that you request Cabanas 8 or Ranchros 9. Both are near the Dig and there is a bus stop #4 between the two buildings. Each area also has a quiet pool and laundry. we had a waterview and looked over the lake and beach that runs infront of the Cabanas. We were able to see Fireworks from some place from our window. We never did figure out where they were comming from. Most of the conventions stay close to the Casitas

The Dig Site is great! Don't miss the hot tub/spa. It is the largest at WDW. It is open to late and opens early in the morning. There is a nature trail that runs between the Casitas and Ranchros. They have bikes and water sprites to rent also.

There is a great website you need to check out. I am sorry I don't have the full address but it starts with coronado_springs.tripod.com. This guy has all the info on the resort. It is a wonderful relaxing place. We would go back in a heart beat.

Have a wonderful Magical time

Pam

My wife and I just returned from a six-day stay at Coronado Springs and love it. Previously we've stayed at the Boardwalk (2-3 times), Wilderness Lodge (once) and the Grand Floridian Concierge level (twice).
We were a little hesitant about the moderate amenity resorts after a bad experience at Dixie Landings several years ago (pre-rehab). But we really loved CS.
We stayed in Cabana (I think) 9B. Although the resort seems huge, we found it very manageable from where we were. There is a bridge across the lake to get to the main pool, and the walk to ElCentro was not terribly far. The longest walk I had was to the health club, (the walk was a work-out itself!) but otherwise it was great.
For such a large resort (and 700 rooms checked in on Friday of Memorial Day!) it never seemed overly crowded.

A few tips:
1. Definitely buy the PepperMarket drink mug when you get there. It runs about $10, but refills are free throughout the hotel and at the pool (it includes coffee and soft drinks so you'll definitely make your $ back and then some).
2. I thought the PepperMarket was alittle over-priced in this sense: You do get a huge portion for the price, but this portion is more than I needed (i.e. a huge omlet or skillet). Since it's ala carte, to get a "side" of fruit with breakfast, you have to buy a separate fruit cup, which is also a fairly good portion, but again more than you probably need. So in that sense we were paying for food we really couldn't eat. On the other hand, I thought the buffet b'fast at Maya Grill was much more economical. Basically the same food choices (and some additional ones) for about $12 per adult (including most drinks, especially if you follow tip 1 above). I found that we paid the same as or less than the PepperMarket b'fast, and had a better selection and more reasonable portions.

Good luck and have fun!

I changed our ressies from AKL to CSR today. I really like the rec choices they have. As far as the drink mugs , are they in the room when you get there or do you have to go to the Market to purchase one.

Also is there a grocery store on the way to WDW where we can stop to pick up a case of bottle water. I heard of Publix(i hope i spelled that right) but I'm not sure where it's located. I really want to stop somewhere thats close as close can get.

THanks
