Re: mousekeeping

Just to make it clear,OP,mousekeeping is not a tipped position at Disney World. You do not have to leave a tip if you don't want to,plus anything you leave should be enough. Don't let anyone here make you think that you have to leave a tip. With that said,I do sometimes leave a tip when I remember to.

Re: mousekeeping

I leave $1 per day per person. We don't leave a mess in the room, we put all the dirty towels in a neat pile by the sink and empty all the trash cans into one. I didn't always leave a tip, I never thought about it. But the last couple of trips I have. I always leave them on a daily basis in a envelope by the sink.

However, I don't know how many times you've stayed at any hotel, it is standard to leave housekeeping a tip - much like tipping the bell hop

Dopey that is kind of a True/False statement... it isn't Standard or Manatory to leave a tip for housekeeping is customary - and it shows that you appreciate what they do.

True it isn't mandatory, but please...we tip waiter, we tip cab drivers, we don't automatically tip the people who clean our bathrooms?

There is a slight difference. Taxi drivers and waiters most often aren't even paid minimum wage and many of the taxi drivers in WDW own their own taxis and have contracted with a larger company to feed them fares because they have to kick back fees to the dispatching company and out of money left, they have to pay for gas, insurance, registration, fees, and repairs to their cabs. This means that they aren't even keeping all of the money their taxis bring in on any day. Waiters by some sort of twisted tradition make most of their wages from tips.
The housekeeping staff at WDW is paid better, from my understanding above minimum wage, than the waiters and there is actually a policy to discourage tipping housekeepers and concierge staff.
But has become customary to tip housekeeping for doing a decent job of cleaning your room (and not stealing anything). This goes for land locked hotels. On cruise ships, we're back to the cabin stewards not being paid enough and NEEDING those tips to make up for earnings shortfalls.

Wasn't us.

I make a point of leaving a big mess. Wouldn't want to make mousekeeping feel unappreciated.

I am joking!!

I try and leave $2/day . . . because I KNOW they change mousekeepers every couple of days . . . It's like a buffets . . . I tip the same as I would at a sit down. I think servers at buffets do WAY more WORK!!!

I also don't think someone should be looked down upon if they decide, for whatever or no reason, not to tip.

Re: mousekeeping

With DVC you only get towel and trash service once through the week. I've been in the suite when Mousekeeping comes, and let me tell you - they don't exhaust themselves. Plunk down the towels, empty the garbage and they're gone. I do leave a tip on that day - usually about $3.00 - but I'm certainly not going to tip them for the whole week. Now, if someone chooses to leave me a tip for the rest of the week, it will be appreciated. Thank you.
