We are a family of three and we leave 5 dollars a day. We do the same thing when it is just my Mom and I as well. We try and keep it neat.

I tip exactly the same couldn't agree more with you about the buffet thing. I know some people who actually think you shouldn't need to tip very well if you get a buffet meal.

Now, if someone chooses to leave me a tip for the rest of the week, it will be appreciated. Thank you.
Interesting...we have our first DVC stay this fall. I've never been big on tipping housekeepers, probably because I'm a bit of a neat freak when I leave the room having things put away, but we've usually left a fair amount in the rooms at Disney. It makes sense to me that if they are only doing service/towels/trash once a week or so, they shouldn't be getting as large a tip as everyday service.

The only "oops" is I usually forget and end up leaving a larger amount (like $20) every several days instead of a little every day. This next trip, we're also going to leave personalized "thank you" cards from Tagrel.com (or something very similar if my creative DW gets an inpired!).

Any folks out there with CM experience know if mousekeeping is on a significantly better pay scale than waitstaff?

Yes we should do it out of kindness - you should think of it this way... tipping mousekeeping is an act that should not go understated... if it wasn't for them, I would have to make the bed and clean the bathroom...

We tip $5.00 per day - I leave an envelope every other day.

Re: mousekeeping

In our past trips I have always lefted a tip everyday. What I was wondering is how others leave it. Years ago I found a wed-site that you could print " for mousekeeping"on the envelopes. I had made quite a few, but now I need more and I can't find the site. Does anyone know of one that I can use.
Thanks,
Jean

actually, I made envelopes myself the one time I used envelopes. It's fun and so very easy to do.

Re: mousekeeping

We tip $1.00 a day for Mousekeeping. My BF used to work in house keeping and she told me that she was easily able to get to 6 or 7 rooms an hour. Even if they are getting the minimun, they're coming out with at least $12.00 an hour if everyone gives them a dollar.

As far as the buffet issue, I don't think you should HAVE to tip 18% on parties of 6 or more. I think 18% is a bit much for filling glasses and removing plates .

I work for the post office and our carriers walk 20 plus miles a day in the heat, snow, rain and cold. No one ever thinks of tipping them.

I tip when it's deserved. If the service is good I have given up to 50%. I have even gone as far as to find out who cleaned our room at POR because she took the time to make towel animals for DD birthday and we wrote her a thank you note and tipped her more.

DH and I disagree on the tipping issue. He worries about our things being stolen if we don't tip enough. I have talked to people that tip more for the same reason. I think it's really sad that people have gotten to the point where people are tipping based on fear and not if the service deserves a little extra thank you.

We make our own Mousekeeping envelopes. I get Disney stickers and have my daughter decorate them and write a little thank you note on the inside flap .
