Re: mousekeeping

We tip $1.00 a day for Mousekeeping. My BF used to work in house keeping and she told me that she was easily able to get to 6 or 7 rooms an hour. Even if they are getting the minimun, they're coming out with at least $12.00 an hour if everyone gives them a dollar.

As far as the buffet issue, I don't think you should HAVE to tip 18% on parties of 6 or more. I think 18% is a bit much for filling glasses and removing plates .

I work for the post office and our carriers walk 20 plus miles a day in the heat, snow, rain and cold. No one ever thinks of tipping them.

I tip when it's deserved. If the service is good I have given up to 50%. I have even gone as far as to find out who cleaned our room at POR because she took the time to make towel animals for DD birthday and we wrote her a thank you note and tipped her more.

DH and I disagree on the tipping issue. He worries about our things being stolen if we don't tip enough. I have talked to people that tip more for the same reason. I think it's really sad that people have gotten to the point where people are tipping based on fear and not if the service deserves a little extra thank you.

We make our own Mousekeeping envelopes. I get Disney stickers and have my daughter decorate them and write a little thank you note on the inside flap .

Re: mousekeeping

My DH usually puts the do not disturb sign on the door, and we keep it clean on our own, we get fresh towels when we see housekeeping in the hall. He does not like for anyone to go into the room unless we are there. Yes, he is a little paranoid and pessimistic but I do go along with him to keep the peace . . .Since we do all the work should we tip at all? Hmmmm, just wondering? At least I know how much to tip now, very informative.

I really don't think that's tip worthy. And, I understand your husband's concerns. I feel that way in some places. Strangly, not so much at Disney

At Disney I dont really have a fear of stolen property. I do thikn it may happen but I do keep all my personal things locked up in a safe. There is never money around or jewerly. I do tip based on what is done.

It does alway surprise me how people have a strong sense of security while at Disney . . . I see kids of all ages walking around without their parents!

I know Disney has a STRONG security force in place, uncover police etc . . . but PEOPLE . . . you are SURROUNDED by strangers . . . hold on to your kids!!!

Wow, my DH is the same way. He does not want anyone in our room. It may be Disney, but he still feels that way.

Disney Mouse keeping is great about putting fresh towels and such on your door when they are asked not to come in and they call you and leave a message to let you know who they are and where to call if you should need anything during your stay.

I didn't say it was meant as an insult.
I was trying to imply I got it right away.
And then I had to explain the scene to one of our fellow posters because that poster was unfamiliar with the movie.

Not to start a debate, but I just have to say . . . I think servers at buffets work JUST as hard!! We just ate at H&V and there was 8 of us . . . and he was clearing plates, filling glasses NON-STOP for the 2 hours we were there! If we had had a server, they would have gotten the drinks, taken the order, and delivered the food! So IMHO . . . I think buffet servers work just as hard, and end up with the short end of the stick, cuz people feel they are "serving themselves" at buffets! (I'm not sure how servers get paid in WDW if they are on the reduced hourly rate or not, but our total bill was $200 + a bar tab, and the tip was $36, that's only $18/hour - and trust me we kept him busy! )

As far as the post office goes, I ship a LOT of PKG, so I ALWAYS tip my carrier . . . at the Holidays and random times throughout the year. PLUS, most carriers are on salary . . . servers are not!

With that said, no one should be forced to tip and should do so according to how they feel about the service they received!
