Calling WDW....

When you call WDW they have a recording that asks what are ya callin' for? Etc.

Then there is a question that says "Have you been to WDW since 2003? Press 1 for yes and 2 for no."

Why do they ask this?

For the record it breaks my heart that I have not been to WDW since 2003!

Re: Calling WDW....

That crossed my mind too. I was thinking it helps the cast member answering the call to know how much detail they may or may not need to give. No need to give basic info to a seasoned Disney veteran. I would imagine it would also help to speed up the response time too.

That's probably a really good explanation; I imagine if you haven't been there in a long time, the CM is encouraged to update you on what has changed since your last visit.

I've always wondered about that too! (And it was really depressing having to punch "no"....) At least I can say I've been again now, yay!

Re: Calling WDW....

I think they want to know if you have been there in the last five years or not. If I remember correctly, it used to be "Have you been since 2002?" So I think they are trying to gauge if it has been more than five years since you have been there since presumably there would be a lot of changes in that time period.

I always assume that the questions are asked for what other have said above - to gauge if they need to direct your call to a more experienced or detail offering CM or if they can hand you off to someone with a little less experience or detailed info. But who knows?

It does frustrate me that even after I put in my reservation # or phone number, I still have to answer the questions every time I call. I wish there was a way to tie your phone number to the info in the system so they KNOW how many times you have been there.

I'm gonna call and put that I've haven't been in 5 years and pretend to know nothing. I'll see if they change the way they handle the call .

This just gives me a reason to call and listen to the hold music!

I tried that, I didn't really notice much of a difference. It seems that every CM can at random give you a little more or less info.

Yes, I have tried that as well. I haven't really noticed a difference in how they handle your calls.

I agree. I punch in my rese # then when the operator picks upthey ask what is your rese #.

Sometimes I think the recording was invented to keep the caller busy rather than accomplish something!

I couldn't agree more. It keeps us busy, thats all. We feel like we are getting somewhere this way, instead of just sitting on hold.

Re: Calling WDW....

Disney asks all of those questions for marketing research. There are any number of ways they will utilize the information. For example, they use historical numbers to figure out when to offer free dining and they use the number of visits to figure out is there a time period that returning guests prefer - and then they try to figure out what it is you prefer and then try to offer those types of things at slower times. Just to name a few...

I think thats probably the right idea. The parks pretty much change every 5 years...maybe they give those calls to more seasoned CM's??
