Vent about Disney

So my sister went on her senior class trip to disney lin the beginning of May. She calls and asks me what she should do if she ran out of money. I told her I would look into it. I called the resort (All Star Sports) that she was staying ats front desk and they said I could do one of two things. I could put my credit card on file and let her have charging priviliges, or I could purchase a set amount of disney dollars with my credit card. This was supposed to be a one time transaction. So I decided to give her $100 in disney dollars and charge it to my cc because I didn't want her to have charging priviliges with my card. Sooo......

A couple of days later, I look at my online banking statement. And the $100 was deducted but two days later so was another $292.54. I was like OMG!!!!

So apparently there was another girl in the room who also ran out of money and called her mom to see if she could send her money. Her mom decided to do the Credit card on file for full charging priviliges. So the Cm told her she had to fax over a copy of her driver's license and the credit card. The credit card was American Express. I don't know exactly what happened, we were told numerous different things, but her CC didn't work, so the CM just decided to use my card and give the girl charging priviliges to my credit card WITHOUT my authorization. AND my credit card information should have disappeared right after I made the one time transaction. I am so angry. THEN they tell me before they can credit my account, they have to get the money from the other lady because they don't have a spare 300 bucks lying around.

So after about 3 hours arguing with them on the phone, they tell me they will credit my account, but it could take up to two weeks. The man asks me if I would like to place a formal complaint and I say yes, I do. So they give me an email address because apparently there is no way to call someone. I send a very long detailed email saying how much I love Disney and explaining the situation. That was about three weeks ago and I am still waiting for a reply. But a very nice executive guest correspondent, whatever that means. She is supposed to call me tommorrow to let me know what is going on.

Anyway I am so upset over the whole thing. It really left a sour taste in my mouth. I should be planning our new trip to Disney in January but I am having such a hard time doing so, I think when the whole thing gets resolved I will feel much better. We have since received our money back.

Gosh Jen I think someone messed up big time at Disney to let this other person use your CC without your authorisation.
I would have thought that the very fact you did NOT authorise the transactions leaves Disney entirely to blame and therefore would have no option but to eventually reimburse you.
I once had unauthorised spending on a CC at CBR after we had checked out and were actually flying above the Atlantic- however, the charges were fairly small and it would have cost more to call Disney and ask for an explanation- however, it has also always made me read the very fine print when checking in.
I will be interested to hear if anyone does ever get back to you on this matter.

When you speak to the representative with the made up official sounding title let them know about you love for WDW and how you are feeling about not planning a trip in Jan. They will listen to you, I have faith in that.

If you don't get a phone call tomorrow you can do A LOT of leg work but you could find a way to contact someone by phone.

Keep us posted, I am curious as to what they have to say for themselves.

Call the credit company right now and dispute it. They fax you a form and fill it out and it is removed immediately from your card until they can iron it out. If they find out though your sister told this girl she could do it and pay you back they will recharge you and hit you with interest.

Did your sister pay you back when she came home?

We did that as soon as we found out about the charges and they were great about it. My sister did not have the actual card, She would have never told someone they could use my card, and even if they did, it would still be illegal for Disney to allow them to use my card number that should not have even been in the system. My sister is not authorized to use my card either. The thing that makes me the most mad is that my information should have been deleted immediately. Think of all the times we use credit cards to pay for portions of our trips. They can't save that information and use it towards someone else's trip. And I feel like that is what they did to me. Ididn't even know the girl staying in the room with my sister.

My sister paid me back before she got back. My mother wouldn't let her bring all her money, thinking she would save some, so She had money in her room saved in a tin, that my mother gave to me the next day.

Oh Jen that is wrong! Utterly, and completely wrong - never should have happened!!

I hope they resolve this fully, so you can get rid of that sour taste. I would be so upset if I were you too.

I'm sorry... but why would there be any reason for either girl to run out of money? Did they pre-pay for the rooms through the school? Even if not, they would have already paid for the rooms.

Both girls knew how much money they had up front and therefore, how much they would be able to spend. If meals were going to become an issue, they could buy poptarts or something to bring along and eat. Souvenirs are unnecessary. If they wanted these unnecessary items, they could've brought along enough money to purchase them.

I think it was extremely kind of you to look out for your sister by purchasing Disney Dollars (did your sister know that you had bought Disney Dollars for her in case money was tight?... if so, I'd assume that she knew how much, and again, how much she could spend, if not before, then once she received them). As for Disney giving charging privileges to your sister's roomie, I'm very sorry. You definitely deserve an apology (and maybe inquire about some Disney Dollars to make it up to you?). I suggest that maybe instead of contacting Disney, you get direct contact with the girl who charged your credit card? Because, technically, she owes you the money.... not Disney.

It is a growing concern I have not only about disney ocassionally ,but in our society in general, competent knowledgable people in customer service....also understanding the person at the airport this past weekend in palo alto ...could not speak english,not even barely and was making announcements and paging people,everyone there was wondering what the person was saying...thank god it wasn't to evacuate the terminal
