Has anyone changed resorts during stay?

DH and I booked a 1 BR at Beach Club Villas (we are DVC'ers) months ago and now my parent's are going with us but my father is coming halfway through our stay. We are considering the first half of the stay at BCV with the three of us and then switching to OKW for a 2 BR when my father arrives. There are no 2 BR's available at BCV and besides, can't afford the points.

Has anyone done this? We never have and I'm curious as to how smooth or bumpy the transfer may be.

How do our bags get from BCV to OKW? Who handles that?

Is it a pain to check in/check out and then check in/check out again?

HELP...can't decide what to do.

Re: Has anyone changed resorts during stay?

I've never done it for DVC (since I don't own) but we did do it last September switching from POP to the Poly. We just wheeled up our luggage to luggage services and they tagged it and took it to the Poly for us.

The check in/out wasn't bad at all but the only bad thing we experienced was it took a LONG time to get our luggage again (we finally went to luggage services at the Poly and got them ourselves).

I'd do it again though if I had to!

Re: Has anyone changed resorts during stay?

We had a couple nights at POR and wanted to stay just one more day. Nothing was available except for GF so my SIL booked us at the Grand Floridian for that last night. (It was so wonderful-and we were upgraded to the concierge level!!)

We left POR first thing and checked in at GF by 9am. We had our own car so it was very easy. And we spent the whole day there!! It was perfect!!

Re: Has anyone changed resorts during stay?

I have done it a few times. Very easy. You call luggage services and they will send your luggage over. You then can go check in. Most likely, your room will not be ready until afternoon. Go to the parks and call later to see if it is ready. When you get back, your luggage is in your room. Disney does a great job at this.Have fun!

Re: Has anyone changed resorts during stay?

It has always gone smoothly for us as well. The only pain is having to pack an re-pack, but as far as the actual move, Disney makes it very easy for you.

Just like she said.

We did spend a little time having to check back in again, and depending on the person, it can bother some to be "homeless" for 4 or 5 hours. We always left one resort and went to the parks as normal, then just checked in at the new resort later.

Re: Has anyone changed resorts during stay?

We've done it many times and had no problems except for the minor things mentioned in the pervious threads. It's fun! It's like starting your vacation all over again!

Re: Has anyone changed resorts during stay?

Never done it myself but we met a family on our last trip who did 2 weeks at AKL then a week at ASM, we asked them how they were moving and they were just going to jump a taxi with their cases over to ASM!

Re: Has anyone changed resorts during stay?

Thanks everyone. We actually decided to stay all week in a 2 BR at OKW. Never stayed there before but looking forward to the relaxed atmosphere. We're a party of 4 adults and no children so it should be nice.

OKW is our very favourite DVC property - you'll be shocked when you see the size of the 2 bedroom and very pleased that you made the choice! Have a great stay!

Re: Has anyone changed resorts during stay?

We did it last year and like everyone said Disney moves your luggage very easily.

Our only problem was we liked the 1st hotel we were at better than the 2nd!! (we were at the Contemp and were upgraded to a lagoon view. Our 2nd place was the Beach Club, which we loved except the room itself wasn't nearly as nice as the new Contemp Rooms!)

Re: Has anyone changed resorts during stay?

We've changed resorts several times and always let Disney move our bags. Bell Services gets our bags from our room, tags them, and moves them to our new resort. When the guy from BS took our bags last week for our move from WL to BC he said they move all the bags at 1:00 so don't expect them to get to our new resort before 2-3:00.

Re: Has anyone changed resorts during stay?

well we did it in 2002 when we stayed originally at the CBR...I really didn't like it there to be honest nor did DH and so 3 days in to our 2 week vacation we started asking about in various resorts about how much it would cost to move. We asked at the POLY and GF and eventually WL. The guys at WL were so lovely and as the rate was so good ( this was the January after 9/11 so the resorts were really empty ) so we decided to change. They did everything, a really cool guy came back with us to CBR and collected our luggage and drove us in a private Disney van to the new resort and stayed with us at check in and then took our bags to the new room. He was so so helpful.
Now for us, it was an easy thing and very smooth but I don't know if this was down to the fact that at this time each resort was vying for everyones business due to 9/11 or if they really were that good!?

I'm not much help I'm afraid but thought I would add a bit of input!?!

Re: Has anyone changed resorts during stay?

We changed from CBR to CSR. Very easy to do. Just dropped our bags off at bell services & checked out of CBR. Went to the parks and hopped the bus to CSR later in the day. Checked in at CSR & our luggage was already waiting for us. Bell services brought it to out room.

We are resort hopping again this year. CSR to SSR to AKV

Re: Has anyone changed resorts during stay?

I split my stay between AKL and the polynesian one year. You inform the bag people that you will be switching resorts the day before your check out. They will come and get your bags at a scheduled time (usually early morning). They will then transfer your bags for you.

Many people on here do this almost every trip. I didn't care for it...I didn't like packing up and unpacking...moving resorts etc was kinda a hassle for me, but it wasn't WDW staff that made it a hassle. They really do a great job of getting things taken care of for you. I just didn't like moving...
